Wow.....how incredibly sad. It sends shivers down my spine to think that a website like that (or ours) can be ruined by a group of twisted individuals.

There are always a few bad apples who try to spoil the whole bunch. I've seen it here and I've seen it on other sites as well. What a shame that the few baddies got that site shut down.

Sorry to see that happen to any good board/site like Rita's. I visited her site (not the boards) a lot, back in '99, when I was planning my family trip to WDW. It was at that time I came across the DIS also. I have purchased Rita's book twice.

Welcome to the DIS, Linnie, even though you have been around a bit as a lurker. Stop by often and pass the DIS site on to those who may be looking for a new home and family. The DIS is a nice place. {Hugs}

Back in '98 I bought Rita's book, and that's what led me to the clubhouse. I used to spend a lot of time there in '99, too. I'm sorry that the actions of a few have hurt so many.


jldriscoll - a group of people from a non-Disney site decided that they were going to shut down the DIS, and literally attacked our boards and chatrooms. Thanks to our extremely vigilant WM's and mods who were on that night, these people were dealt with, but it was a long long night (and then some)

I am so sorry to hear this has happened. I visited Rita's site a lot until I found the Dis. I would be so lost if something like that happened here. I have many very good relationships here, but I only talk to them through the Dis. No phone numbers, no email addresses. How sad I would be if the Dis went away, and those relationships were also gone. My heart goes out to all those Clubhouse folks who are dealing with the loss of the site and their friends.

Thanks to Pete and his mods and masters who vigilantly keep the Dis free of this kind of thing. I remember that horrible day when we were "attacked" with horrible subjects and words. I am so glad it was taken care of.

Linnie: welcome to the Dis. I hope you're able to heal from this tragedy and, perhaps, find a home here.

Anything at this point is purely speculation. They could have gotten a cease and desist order from Disney. Disney made it clear that didn't approve of a portion of that sites practices.

Time might tell.

I too have been a clubhouse member for about a year now. I love the site and all of the people that I have met thru there. When my sister lost her first baby after 18 hours of labor, all of those people were there for me and for her. One lady in particlar (NancyBJ) e-mailed me everyday with words of compassion and hope. We have never met but she was there for me in ways that people around me couldn't be and I will forever be grateful to her. I was very depressed last night when I couldn't get to my home away from home and I missed my friends.
I love the DIS too and I am thankful that this too is a home away from home for me. I was almost scared to come here last night, just to find it gone too. I am thankful that there are still the good hearted people here and that I am a member of a community that will warmly open their hearts to the people that are lost right now with out the clubhouse.

Yes, MzEeyore I agree it is really,really sad. (I didn't see your post here before we talked!)

I go to the Clubhouse as well as this site and they are the only two I use. I have been visiting there for about six months and the people have been very kind and helpful. The atmosphere among the members is just like a family that always has room for one more.

I am keeping you all in my thoughts.

First off I would like to say that we are a completely different site, set up in a different way. I hope everyone feels safe here, we have a lot of safeguards built in to keep it that way. Some of them are pretty obvious, such as the flood control that only allows you to post every 60 seconds to some that are not so obvious. We can and have been attacked but we are extremely fortunate to have a great group of Moderators, someone is here almost 24 hours a day and that enables us to jump on things pretty quick.
I know not everyone agrees with everything we do on the site but from Pete on down... we really try hard to balance things and make it a safe and enjoyable place.

Even with me as one who sometimes is not in agreement with some things that happen here on the DIS

, I must say that is a true statement, Alex. I have been fortunate to have seen the operation from both sides of the fence, and though I have in the past, and continue to at times now, voice my opinions of difference, I really believe the overall good of the site is what is important, and that is what keeps me coming back here, and saying repeatedly, the DIS IS the best Disney site on the Net.

I also want to say that I agree completely with Dan. I've seen a lot of "interesting" things happen out there and the DIS always seems so safe and sane. Well, safe and mostly sane.
