I was lucky to get tickets to a preview of Saving Mr Banks on Sunday as part of the London Film Festival. Really loved the film! It's a must for anyone who grew up watching Disney films or has an interest in Disney history :thumbsup2

The film mixes 2 stories: one about PL Travers going to California to develop the film and one looking back into her childhood and how it influenced writing Mary Poppins. There are lots of funny moments but it's mixed with a lot of sadness about PL Travers life.

From looking at the trailer I wasn't sure how good Tom Hanks would be as Walt, but I thought he did a pretty good job. The guys playing the Sherman brothers stole it for me - they were wonderful :goodvibes Emma Thompson was fab as always!

If you see the film, make sure you stay for the credits - they show photos from the Mary Poppins premier and play a recording of the real PL Travers going through the script which is v funny.

Oh and don't forget your tissues............ It wasn't Toy Story 3 level of tears but there weren't many dry eyes in the cinema!

Anybody else seen it? What did you think?

I'm do excited for this movie. DH and I always go to the movies on Christmas Day and I've already picked this movie for this year.

I'm really looking forward to this movie, too. I read several of the Mary Poppins books when I was in elementary school.

How appropriate is it for kids?

It depends on the kid - I think younger children could find it boring (particularly the backstory of her life in Australia) and it's definitely helpful to know a bit about Walt Disney to fully appreciate why the two didn't get along. It's a PG rating in the UK - without giving much away I think this is due to scenes with PL Travers' father drinking.

What about language?

Thanks for the info, OP.
I am really looking forward to seeing this!

Good to know about staying for the credits. I will certainly stay, but this embarrasses my DD...
"Come ON Mom, let's GO! We look ridiculous. The workers want to come in and sweep!"

OT- I love your avatar, OP!

Everyone at the screening I went to stayed to watch the credits so I don't think you'll feel out of place :thumbsup2

mulderxcoltrane - just saw your post. The language is fine for kids. I don't remember hearing anything inappropriate.

So glad to hear you enjoyed it OP! I can't remember the day it releases in the USA. I am hoping it is out when we are on our DC so we can watch it on the ship. :) I am really looking forward to this movie!
