I was lucky to get tickets to a preview of Saving Mr Banks on Sunday as part of the London Film Festival. Really loved the film! It's a must for anyone who grew up watching Disney films or has an interest in Disney history
The film mixes 2 stories: one about PL Travers going to California to develop the film and one looking back into her childhood and how it influenced writing Mary Poppins. There are lots of funny moments but it's mixed with a lot of sadness about PL Travers life.
From looking at the trailer I wasn't sure how good Tom Hanks would be as Walt, but I thought he did a pretty good job. The guys playing the Sherman brothers stole it for me - they were wonderful
Emma Thompson was fab as always!
If you see the film, make sure you stay for the credits - they show photos from the Mary Poppins premier and play a recording of the real PL Travers going through the script which is v funny.
Oh and don't forget your tissues............ It wasn't Toy Story 3 level of tears but there weren't many dry eyes in the cinema!
Anybody else seen it? What did you think?
