Saving VMK strategies

I'd be happy to try Youtube. Although there are probably many videos about it already, I could always add another one. Every little bit helps:)

What exactly do you want people to do?

If we can get teams of people doing x ammount of things for their grouping that day ( like x ammount of the CNN group trying to get CNN in ) and then the next day the Fox team will switch to be the CNN team so we can keep the letters flowing.

My letter has been sent with the following photo to:
ABC in Los Angeles
NBC in Los Angeles
CBS in Los Angeles

and local stations:
KTLA 5
KCAL 9
KTTV 11
KZLA 13

I feel as though I am doing my part. I am virtually tied to tree with JGoof. I have been tied for 4 hours and 30 minutes.

I thought just occurred to me... I stumbled across this article at disney corporate:
BURBANK, Calif., March 3, 2008 – A general discussion with Bob Iger, president and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) will be hosted by Bear Stearns at its Twenty-First Annual Media Conference on Monday, March 10, 2008, at 4:30 p.m. EDT/1:30 p.m. PDT.
Yes this lecture is over BUT....apparently Bob Iger does these from time to time. Anyone in the california area? Do you have a FLATSY????? Perhaps this would attract the media and Mr Iger to get out of his car, and see a sea of flatsy's on his way to his meeting. Give that some thought.

Ok, you guys are going to think I'm strange with this suggestion, but like many of you I am desperate! I think we should contact Don Imus.

Yes, Don Imus.

My house band forces me to watch Imus In the Morning. :scared: A few years ago, Imus was all over Disney's case because there were no adult Mickey shirts at the Disney Stores. Well, after a few months of listening to Imus nag them, Disney sent him Mickey shirt from WDW. He still wears it from time to time on his hew station. (Yes, my house band stalked Imus and found his new station)

Imus is also very involved with kids. While his ranch was built for kids with cancer, he also is very vocal and supportive of kids with autisum. Imus would be all over this story if he knew the story of these kids.

So, if anyone wants to give this a go, here is his new contact info:

Yes, Avalanchefan has lost it, but it is worth a shot! :thumbsup2

to be honest I dont think anything is strange

you throw a bunch of darts and you see if any stick. :)

I just hope the letter campaign is still going strong.

It's still going buy me... I just sent another one to Fox News...and our local tv stations.. I am not giving up.

Yes, Don Imus....
Interesting thought. Letter and photo sent under subject line: "Disney pulls plug on Happiest Place Online - Avid Users Fight to Save the Magic"

I think I've spent more time working for VMK than actually ON VMK in the last few days. A media campaign takes a steady, constant push to grow. Keep going everyone. Keep going.

Great! I sent letter and photo to Fox in LA yesterday. The more they get, the more they will start to pay attention.

I totally agree... there is more powers in numbers..so there more we can send in the more they might take us serious. At least we can hope

I think the key is this: whatever individual actions people take, we need to have one thing that everyone does. And it needs to be something you have to step away from your computer to do. That's what has worked best in the past for campaigns like this one. So in addition to calling guest relations, contacting the media, submitting the story to blogs or whatever we're all doing, we need to get together on one big campaign. I think the idea in Bug's thread: [thread=1785203]Idea! Send In Flats!!![/thread] is perfect. Almost anyone can make these flats; if you don't own a color printer, you can get color printouts made for a few dollars at most office supply stores or copy centers. Ditto for the laminating; almost anyone can access either a laminating machine or those little DIY laminate sheets. Amberdaze has an excellent [thread=1249885]Guide to Making VMK Character Flats[/thread] if anyone needs instructions. These little guys are just adorable, and it's the kind of tangible, physical complement to letter writing that worked for tv shows like Jericho and Roswell. It takes a little longer than signing an e-petition, but that's the point: we need to show Disney that we care enough about this game to get out of our chairs and actually do something. That's what's going to impress them.

Here's what I would love to see: this weekend, whatever else we're doing, we all make three sets of flats and send them, with a handwritten note - this should be separate from our longer, formal letters - to the same three people. Parents, get your kids involved in this one; the idea is to tug at the heartstrings. Who can resist a heartfelt note from a kid? And when it's coupled with an adorable little VMK avatar? You'd have to be made of stone.

I'd recommend Iger, of course, as well as Paul Yanover at WDIG and Edward Kummer, the head of Parks and Resorts Online. Both of these guys were key in getting VMK up and running, (I'm 99% sure that Kummer is the 'Ed' from the Dine-In :D), and both are in positions to make things happen at Disney. WDPRO is the department that currently runs VMK; WDIG are the ones who're in charge of all Disney's other virtual worlds.

The main snag: whatever I do, I can not find a mailing address for Kummer. I know he's on the West Coast, but beyond that? :confused3: Anyone else got any ideas on how to track him down? And if not, does anyone have any other leads on contacts in WDPRO?

Holy crazzlepops.
The whole "Save VMK" idea has sprouted into more than I thought.
IT'S AWESOME!

Anyways, me and a few of my friends are going to start posting YouTube videos about saving VMK.

I think we really can do this.

:O

Sent my letter to NBC, ABC, and CBS in Philly. - New York is next.

LOVE the flats idea.

Okay... been working on finding Kummer. Those receptionists are GOOD! But I'm a woman on a mission! (giggle)

Here's what I have so far:
WDIG in Seattle, WA
206-664-4000
506 2nd Avenue Suite 2100
Seattle, WA 98104

Disney Online in California
818-623-3200
5161 Lankershim Blvd., 4th Fl.
North Hollywood, CA 91601

I have NOT been able to confirm who's who or who is where for that matter. Are we sure we are going to the right people? I don't know either way, just asking.

I DID find this...
