Wow I am surprised at this thread and how many are telling the op its rude. She came here for help. I haven't heard its rude to save spot for the parades and stuff before of course I am a 3 person family and last year I waited for the parade on my bench (yes I grabbed a bench) and it was a 4 or longer hour wait. My hubby took my son one time to get Caps autograph after the ppl next to us said the line was 5 mins long, this was our last day and we had missed him in the AM. So i said gooo and shooed them away.
Never seen it be said it was rude to have a blanket down and save a curb spot. I do think two or three ppl should wait with you.
Could your parents maybe her an ECV? That way they have seats while waiting.?
As you're probably seen by now, the OP confirmed we were answering the question he asked. He wanted the opinions before committing (or not) to the idea. I also think you misread some of the answers. I don't think putting a blanet down is rude, as we do this ourselves. It was the holding of so many spots by one person that was. It's also much different to have 1-2 people run off really quick to do something (grab dinner, bathroom break, etc) than it is for a large group of people to be off doing something else for hours. Getting spots for the parade could be difficult before the 60th, but with PTN and DLF fireworks, it's a whole new game. I think you'll see what I mean on your upcoming trip. Even if the OP could save the spots without being rude, being successful is another ball of wax as people will encroach into your space over time if there isn't a physical body there (and sometimes even when there is!).
OP, I hope can find a good compromise with your ILs that allow you do get it all done! Enjoy your trip!
