Saving package ticket but using it for FP+

I have a resort package for two people currently. My friend will not be able to go this year but most likely can go next year. The way ticket prices keep going up I think it might be best to leave her on the reservation and keep her ticket for next year. I assume there should be no problem with this. But since I am going myself anyway I am wondering if I could go ahead and use her Magic Band to get another set of FP+ for my use while there. If the MB is not used for park entry it should not count as a used ticket, correct?

Is there anything that I am overlooking or a reason this would not work?

If the magic band is not used for park entry it doesn't work for FP either

Even old FP was same way. Had to use a ticket that gained entrance to park on that day

See, it is just like me to miss the obvious! Thanks.

Yes. "Extra" MBs will work to collect "same-day" FP+ in the parks.

Those MBs must be registered to a guest other than yourself.
(As in, you can't take two MBs registered to YOU and get extra FP+.)

Thanks Robo. So I could make SDFP once in the park but not make them ahead of time. Because if I did make them ahead of time and tried to use it at the attraction it wouldn't let me because the band wasn't used for entry?

1. Yes.
2. If there are VALID PARK TICKETS still in the account of your friend, you can make advanced FP+ for the number of days she has tickets. Her MB does NOT have to be scanned in at the front gate in order to use those FP+ reservations.

HOWEVER, if there are no VALID PARK TICKETS still in the account of your friend, you cannot make advanced FP+ for her MB.

Hmmm. My DH is not on my reservation, but he has a magic band with non-expiring ticket attached. So I guess I could make FP at 30 days and use his too on my solo trip. There isn't that much more I want FP for, but if I can get overlapping ones I can hop sooner, or make some at one park in the morning and another park in the evening on different bands. A world of possibilities!

Yup.

Well, like georgina said, a world of possibilities!!!

Any band with a ticket still active could be used for advanced FP+ and if not used for entry the ticket entitlements remain the same?

So what I suggested in my OP is correct. I could make FP+ reservations both for myself and my friend at my 60 days. Then I would just use "her" FP+ with her band while I am there. And since I wouldn't be using the band for park entry her ticket would never be used so it will keep until next year?

Just back to say that I am not sure that you will be able to book advance FP+ 60 days in advance for a guest who is not registered to be staying at a WDW resort.

You might have to wait until 30 days before EACH DAY at a WDW park to book advance FP+ for a guest who is not registered to be staying at a WDW resort.

It would still give me better options than SDFP.

Interesting loopholes that may not last long and I would love to take advantage of them. I loved it when I was part of the test rollout of FP+ and got those three PLUS legendary FP.

However the more I think it over I may just go ahead and cancel her ticket completely anyway. Though a savings of $10-20 is nice but IF something happens between now and next year it would be better to just save the $300+ for this years ticket. She is actually quite a bit younger than me and I may be too old (not likely!!) or she may be married with kids (I hope not!!!) by next year. And I'd hate to risk holding onto it for longer than a year.

I have a few more weeks until the cancel without penalties date so I will mull this over.

Thanks so much for the help.

I don't know how this loophole works in with this thread but we found a loophole this year for guests not booked on the reservation.

DH, DS and I were booked at SSR for a trip. We were able to make FP+ at 60 days. Then we were able to copy our FP+ to our friends who were local AP holders and didn't have a reservation. I thought it was an interesting loophole.

Looks like anyone (even those without WDW resort reservations) who are linked in MDE to guests who ARE staying at a WDW resort... can also be included with booking FP+ at 60 days in advance.
