Saving on hydration

Just wondering if there is a better way to be thrifty concerning drinking water (other than tap). We won't have a car and can only use Disney or city transportation and don't really want to spend money on a cab. I also don't want to spend $20 bucks a day on water. I am probably bringing a 2-3L camelbak to Disney full of water that I will probably filter with a brita filter or ice machine ice - this may just be enough for me only. My reward for keeping up with hydration is it gets lighter as I drink more. Other than this, is there a better way? Is there a cheap place to buy a case of water in the Disney area? With the Disney Magic your way package - do they just give you only 1 refillable mug or 1 each for each member of the family? - is this is only for resorts? It seems a family of four could spend about $80 a day just on soda/drink alone :scared1:

You do get a mug for every member of your group with the Disney Dining Plan. However, the cups are relatively small for staying hydrated all day as you can't really fill them up in the park. You can bring/buy bottled waters. However, they will get warm after an hour or two walking around in the park (unless you get into the whole freezing them ahead of time thing).

Easy solution? Just get ice water at the parks at any quick service restaurant. We did this all last week in the 95 degree humid heat mostly because we wanted COLD water. Even at meals when we would order sodas, I would also order extra cups of ice water and we'd drink that first to rehydrate a bit so they weren't guzzling down soda quite so quickly.

This is a seriously EASY (and free) thing to do and you aren't carrying around water bottles or cups all day.

We have had Costco deliver it before. I think any number companies will mail it.

You can always contact "wegoshop.com" They are a company that delivers groceries to Disney Hotels. I have used their service in the past so I can highly recommend them. They shop at the stores you wish and even buy beer for you all for a small delivery fee. Our fee was $23 for about $115 worth of groceries.

Check them out!

God luck!

I always bring a water filter pitcher from home to use in the room. It barely takes up space because I pack things inside both compartments. We have had the free DDP that we used for cold drinks in the parks, but I always used the pitcher before we left for the day to fill up water bottles that would be cold in the fridge when we got back to the room.

Personal Brita water bottles. They each have a filter in them and everyone carries their own bottle. You can refill from any water fountain and you don't need to stand in line at a QS location just to get ice water.

Yep, I agree with the others in getting each member their own Brita filtering water bottle (there are other brands, too). The tap water there is absolutely terrible! It tastes so bad I was surprised it wasn't brown. LOL

The refillable mugs from your dining package are awesome and each member of the family will get one, but they are only able to be used at your resort. Try and suggest everyone drink water only in the parks and anytime you go back to your resort, they can fill their mugs with soda, lemonade, tea, hot cocoa, or whatever. :) We drank water in the parks just because having a soda isn't very hydrating when you're walking so much, and then we'd drink soda from our refillable mugs sometimes in the evening, and I LOVED getting hot cocoa in the mornings before breakfast!

Will you have a stroller?

Back when the kids were little, it was easy. I would bring a large sports water jug with us. Then at the food court prior to heading to the bus - I would fill it full of ice and filtered water from the drink dispenser in the food court. I'd throw that under the stroller and it was good for all 4 of us for the morning...Then, at lunchtime I would order 3 or so LARGE cups of ice water with our lunch - and refill the water jug.

Bring one that's well insulated as the ice will keep for a few hours even in the Florida heat.

Now that the kids are too big for stroller...WE just do it the old fashioned way - We stop at CS places and get cups of ice water here and there and buy a few here and there. I figure for the $10 or so per day I'd be saving it's not worth carrying it around with us all day.

Get yourself one of these:

or... If you are just a little bit handy do what I do and buy one of these:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Culligan-...ator-Dispenser-Drinking-Water-Filter/19582189

With this you connect it inline with your drinking hose with some 1/4" flexi tube and some adapters. Then you can pour that swamp water they dispense from the drinking fountains or whatever in your reservoir and it tastes fine.

Get free cups of ice throughout the day to keep the water full and cold.

Depending on whether you want a soda with your meals, each family member can get a bottle of water with each meal instead. My uncle and I like to share meals, so when we travel together and have free dining, we will get one counter service for breakfast and get a Vitamin Water to take to the parks with us (and use our mugs for coffee with breakfast.)
