We do the budget plan on gas and electric. Well last year our gas bill went up....ouch. I just got the new statement and we are now saving 82.00 a month. Plus I have 0.00 to pay this month since we had a under usage credit of almost 370.00!!!

I am very happy about our mild winter last year and on top of that we have a gas heater for the pool !!

:cool1:

Ours has gone down a bit too - I chalk it up to using our programmable thermostat. Really does make a difference!

I never did the budget plan in our previous house because when the electric bills were high, the gas bills were low...so it all kinda balanced out. But, after a year in our new to us house, the bills were completely out of whack. So, after I had a years worth of history I was able to log into our gas and electric accounts to see how much it would be if we did budget payments. I didn't sign up, but I am budgeting those amounts every month so that when the crazy bills of winter arrive I have a nice amount of money put back to cover it. This way I get my money (with interest) and I still have enough to ride out the major bills when they arrive.

I'm from Jersey also and was thinking the same thing about last winter! My electric budget (I have electric heat) went from $227 down to $163 :woohoo: And at least 'downtheshore it's been a pretty mild summer. I've hardly had to run my ac too much, so maybe it will go down again, or at least balance a colder winter if we have one this year.

I have been really concerned about saving energy and reducing my personal carbon footprint so I do many "little" things to help. I recycle EVERYTHING! Even the "trays" that packaged meat and chicken are sold on from the grocery store. Also, everything in my house is unplugged. Anytime we want to use the microwave, toaster, or ANYTHING, we plug it in then unplug it when we are finished. Expecially our window ac units or fans. The only thing left plugged in is our frige! What a difference in our electric bill it has made. I have everyone I know doing the same thing! Even my 28 year old daughter who lives in Miami does the same thing and she says she has noticed a drop in her electric bill! Try it, it absolutely works! :woohoo::yay:

Hi!

I am unplugging everything, too!

Last winter I kept the furnance temperature low, then just used a small space heater in the room where I was. I think this winter I will be even more successful with that strategy! :)

Yay, more Disney dollars! :)

I wish I could do that with our ac! DD has allergies, so once Spring hits the windows are shut and the ac is on! Not much we can do about it.

:)we do the AMP - the average monthly plan, for both the Electric Company (SWEPCO) and the gas company (Ark-La-Gas/Reliant Energy) and have been for a few years now.

We run our summer A/C on electric & our gas for the heat in the winter.

Summer bills:

Electric - $77 - $95
Gas - $25-$50

Winter bills:

Electric - $25 - $50
Gas - $40 - $85

I love the AMP, we probably couldn't do it any other way, we live in the south, and it's a must to have that central air on, all of the time....................it's hot............down here...

Good luck, good to hear you've saved that much......:thumbsup2
