Hello

I was wondering if someone could help me this. Prior to ordering my photopass cd I saved the pictures in varying sizes 8x10, 5x7 etc on the website. I now have the CD and cannot determine what pictures are which sizes. My computer saved them all under HPTSMSMVP.jpg. I can see varying dimensions 2621x1747, 3216x2136, 2990x2136 but I can't find anywhere on the web that equivalates those dimensions to sizes.

Can someone please put me in the right direction?

Thank you!

I'm not the expert here, but found a calculator at http://tiporama.com/tools/pixels_inches.html that will convert pixels to inches, based on your desired output (monitor, printer, etc.). I entered your first picture dimensions, and for a 200 DPI printer, that would be 13.11" x 8.74". Printing at higher resolution (more DPI) would result in a smaller printed picture size.

Hopefully this helps.

Thank you it does give me a starting point at least. I intend to have the pictures printed at Walgreens and wanted to make sure that I uploaded the correct picture size that I saved in order to print the size I want. I can play with the calculator and maybe that will help.

The CD comes with the full resolution pictures only, whomever prints the photos will resize them accordingly. This mostly all automatic these days, but you can adjust things as well.

Bottom line is you should always just upload the photos with the highest resolution, they will always print the best.

You can probably print any of those shots in any of those sizes, but they will be automatically cropped to fit the correct aspect ratio.

The only time I save them in other sizes is when I'm adding a border and minor cropping would affect the border.

I've always been told that all Photopass pictures were supposedly 4x6. Having said that, I've blown a couple up to 36x44 with great results. YMMV.

I never really understood how they declared a saved jpg to be a particular size anyway, and when I First saw they were all "4x6" I about blew a gasket. All that money for small jpgs that were essentially worthless. After delving further, I think the 4x6 thing is more about aspect ratio.

I don't remember what Photopass shoots with, but it seems to be pretty close to the maximum size jpg they can get from those cameras from what I remember looking up. At the end of the day, what you can actually print is all about total pixels and not what "size" the photos were saved in.

It is. Try adding one of the borders to 4x6 photo, then print as a 5x7 (or vice versa) and you'll go "oops, wish I had saved that in an extra size"........

It is just simple division to get from the pixel dimension to the aspect ratio.
4x6 is 6 / 4 = 1.5
5x7 is 7 / 5 = 1.4
8x10 is 10 / 8 = 1.25

2621 / 1747 = 1.5 (4x6)
3216 / 2136 = 1.5 (4x6)
2990 / 2136 = 1.4 (5x7)

I don't know how the photopass gives you the images, but the easiest way to tell what size your digital image will print at is to use the formula.

inches x DPI = pixels

The standard DPI setting for print used to be 300 DPI, but now many are using 240 DPI.
