Save The Adventurers' Club

There are plenty of places in the world to hear techno music and get overpriced drinks...

In the world...yes, in the United States, no. Come to WI and find me one good techno bar. Even the GAY bar doesn't receive techno music well. The closest venue that even plays Techno is 2.5 hours away and it's a rundown poor excuse for a building. No good lighting, awful sound, and certainly no spinning dance floor.

I wish Disney would a) read your siggie quotes and 2) Take them to heart.

~3200 signatures so far, people... spread the Adventure Spirit!! :thumbsup2

Just got my generic reply from guest relations.

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

We recognize that the closing of the Adventurer's Club will disappoint
Guests who have come to enjoy the unique entertainment that has been
offered over the years. With that in mind, please know a tremendous
amount of thought went into the decision as we bring the new vision for
Downtown Disney to life. As we look to the future, we are excited about
the evolution that will occur over the next two years, introducing a
brand new mix of shopping, dining and other experiences for our Guests'
enjoyment.

Our Guests' feedback, as well as their continued enthusiasm for our
products and services, are very important to us. We genuinely
appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts with us.

Sincerely,

Walt Disney World Resort

Doesn't look like they give a darn, they ARE closing it folks.

This really isn't a surprise. The decision was made before the announcement was made; a few emails aren't going to change their minds. Thousands of letters from fans of the Club might convince someone high enough up who can make a difference to reconsider it, however. I am sure they won't save all of Pleasure Island, but I still believe it is possible that the Club itself might be saved - even if they have to relocate it. Joe Rohde, one of the foremost imagineers, is reportedly a big supporter of the Club. Jon Lasseter seems like the kind of person that would appreciate a place so full of "Disney magic". While it may be (and sadly, most likely is) too late to save the Club in its current location, the fans need to convince the Powers That Be that it still has a place somewhere in the Disney Resort.

I have heard that the decision to close the Club was not necessarily a popular one even with all of The Powers That Be. If that is the case, maybe all we need to do is create enough of an outcry to give someone with power the ammunition they need to support changing this decision.

What we as fans need to do is bombard the Disney Executives with reminders that the closure of the Club is a mistake. Companies place far more importance on actual letters than emails. It's easy to fire off a bunch of emails; it takes an effort to send a letter. While the emails might help along with everything else, emails and electronic petitions alone will not save the Club. Printed petitions and a actual letters still might.

We're up to 3400 signatures, if we can get to 10,000 I'll send it immediately. I'll send it regardless though as soon as the signatures slow down.

I signed, and plan to write a letter too. I agree that handwritten letters will make a much larger impact. I am so bummed by this. My DW and I were looking forward to a fun night out together when we are there in November, and AC was the topper to the whole thing. We didn't get to go our last time out there, and boy do I regret it now...I give a big pppppppbbbth to whoever made this decision.

Creeping up toward 4,000 signatures.

Maybe this weekend I can plot out the spot for my "Tiananmen Square" blockade of September's wrecking ball...

I just signed up for the Facebook group as well as signed the other petition out there. I am planning on writing my "snail mail" letter tonight at some point. I think this is the only way we can make a difference here, folks.

There is a "Save the AC" podcast going on right now if anyone wants to call in live!

Okay, everyone! Happy July 4th! It appears that our hard work is beginning to take notice by the Disney execs. Let's keep going!

Make a goal each day of at least one thing you will do to keep the word out and the Disney execs listening. Here's mine for today...

1. Yesterday, I drafted a snail mail letter. I also began stuffing envelopes. Today I plan on finishing that.

2. I plan on emailing my letter down the Disney exec list tonight.

Marching along, we're adventurers!

I just got this message from Brandon on Facebook with actual phone numbers to Disney execs including Lansbury! We should definitely call this weekend while they aren't there and leave messages, cause I'm sure when Monday comes the numbers will be changed.

Today, I was given the personal voicemail numbers for Barry Carlson and DTD VP Kevin Lansberry from a guest who found their numbers in the TeleCast dropped carelessly at Downtown Disney.

I took this opportunity to call and leave a voicemail for both today and hope you will consider doing so as well; remember, be thoughtful, sincere and always let your conscience be your guide.

Also, be brief! The shorter the calls--the more we will fit on their voicemail
before "voicemail is full."

HERE IS WHAT TO SAY:

"Hello (Barry or Kevin),

My name is (Your Name Here) and I am a patron of Pleasure Island/The Adventurers Club. I was calling to let you know while we appreciate the Disney Company's concern for building a better guest experience, I hope you will respectively re-consider the plans to close this Downtown Disney attraction.

I am considering taking my business outside of Disney if this plan goes through.

Thanks!"

Sincerely,
Brandon De Hoyos,
Host, SAVE the AC: Radio! Activism! Adventure!

We should also, I think, send a separate letter (this time of appreciation and thanks) to the people who designed the AC (Disney Imagineering) thanking them for the work they did to make the AC such wonderful attraction. (Anyone got the address of the group charged with attraction/venue design?)

One may scream at evil all you want, but it means little if you don't empower the good, eh?

I just got back from an impromptu WDW trip over this July 4th weekend for the purpose of visiting the AC. Some thoughts:

1) Boy, do I love that place. Tremendous time. Unfortunately, no blender at the bar so.... No Kungaloosh!! :scared1:
2) How in the WORLD can they justify keeping the cesspool that is the West End open and closing PI? It's an outdoor strip mall and has NO Disney feel. Money, obviously, but sad to see.
3) Spot picked out for standing in front of the wrecking ball.

Keep finding people to write in.... If you haven't been to the AC, try it once and you'll see. :thumbsup2

Anybody know what happened to the blog talk radio show? I missed it last night and it doesn't seem to be up tonight?

Apparently someone complained and they took them down, but they're back up tonight and need calls! Here's the message I just got...

If ever there was a time we needed every minute of the radio show filled, it is
tonight. After a long hiatus, we are back tonight after a short but critical fight with
our BlogTalkRadio network, who dropped the show because of an email complaint.

CALL TONIGHT! 11:30 p.m. EST (AC TIME!)
