I for the heck of it looked up the fragrance I wear everyday on Ebay. Found lots of items listed as testers but new in the box. Got a perfume that lists for $54 for 3.4 oz for $15 with free shipping. It arrived and was indeed NIB and didn't appear discoloured or smell "off". For the money I saved, to me it was worth the risk of trying ebay. HTH someone

ive been doing this for quite some time. it's amazing how much cheaper it is only... I really have a hard time buying ANYTHING retail

Yeah, it's probably shoplifted merchandise, so it's not a knock-off. My fragrance counters got hit by shop-lifters numerous times last X-mas when the sets were on display. We're talking about $40,000 worth of loss in an area where the annual business is about $500,000.

So yes retail will be always be higher--the cost of the Loss has to be made up somewhere.

ugh, I didn't think of that since they called them testers and came NIB. how do they get them from behind the counter?

Some of it will be gratis bottles I would guess. I have a friend that worked in the makeup world for years. She received full size gifts quite often . Gave as gifts , but I would imagine that some folks sell. She has mentioned a few times that lots of what is sold on ebay has "fallen off the truck" .

I ordered Vera Wang Princess off of ebay for my dd and got a fake. It was a good fake but a fake. I emailed the seller and they sent me a stock email that 'sometimes the perfume sits around and gets old' and they refunded my money immediately.

for the record, it's not always fake, you just have to be very careful who you buy from

Oh I know it's not all fakes but I was stupid and didn't read enough feedbacks. I should have known when it was 1/4 of the price, lol!

When I was at WDW in May, I fell in love with the fragrance "Laila". I had sprayed some on my arm at Uptown Jewelers and loved it. I had planned on stopping to buy it on the way out, but we never did. I looked in DTD and they didn't have it. We were on our way home and I was bummed. I found it on Ebay, $55.00 for the $75.00 bottle no shipping. I always read feedback. This person lived in Florida, so I felt good about the purchase. It is awesome, I spray on a little essence of "Disney" :mickeybareveryday.:yay:

They got broken into over the weekend again. It's a professional ring, they actually break the seal and lift the glass off the top of the counter and then replace it. So if they put all that energy and ingenuity into good--there would be world peace.

As for the gratis, when you receive you're actually asked to sign something saying you won't sell--but I'm sure people ignore that.

I was a manager of a perfume counter at a large high-end retail store that closed years ago here in our area.

We had SO many extra testers it was crazy - like 20 of each perfume. We would allow the employees to take them home and did not require them to sign anything saying they wouldn't resell it.

This was pre-ebay though (it was about 15 years ago) but still - there were enough that we WANTED them gone - the perfume companies continued to send us free testers in each order (we ordered a couple times a week).

While I enjoy having full-size bottles of perfumes, I've grown to love those rollerballs; I prefer them over full-size bottles. They're small, and you can get them for a good price (I bought a roller ball of Juicy Couture's Couture Couture at Sephora for $20; I've had it since Feb.) I like to buy quite a few of them so I have some variety.
