We just had a fantastic vacation at WDW in August. We didn't upgrade to annual passes before we left- as I don't want to go in the heat of summer and April would have been blocked out, PLUS we want to go to other places for our next trip.
Right.
So now I'm home, and we all want to go back. We do not have any DVC points this year, and love the resorts that are very expensive. But our whole family is thinking- oh lets just go for a few nights- not 7 or 8 like we usually do.....but then, we've paid a lot for flights and the tickets are more expensive and we don't feel as relaxed...We like to take time away from the parks, or just go for a few hours.
I am so tempted!

Not sure I'll be much help at all. We just returned from a two week August trip during which our APs expired. We told the kids that we're going to give WDW a break for a bit and activate the US/IOA AP vouchers we have for our Thanksgiving trip (and our New Years and Easter trips), but I'm yearning for WDW. I keep trying to squirrel $$ away so we can lessen the blow of the cost of APs. I know that a large part of it is the fact that our middle DD will be starting college in 2017, and I feel the time of us all being on the same schedule slipping away fast. I know that's irrational, because we still have 3 trips coming up before she graduates HS, but those trips don't include WDW and I don't want to get through them and then feel like we should have just sucked it up and done WDW as well. We drive down and stay offsite, so the pull to add APs is almost too much to resist since we'll be there anyway! UGH!

I was desperate to get back there after we got home from our trip at Easter. DESPERATE. I wanted to go back this December, but luckily I was talked down, and now we're set for Christmastime at Disney NEXT December. I'm so glad we waited. I've signed up for a Southwest card, so the bonus points should pay our round-trip airfare, and I was able to arrange to rent DVC points from a terrific Grand Floridian owner (pending, of course, since we're over 11-months out, but she sounds confident). It's not going to be a long trip (3 nights), but it'll be long enough to see take in the Christmas festivities.

That initial yearning to return right after you've gotten home is soooo strong though. I thought I was going insane! Crazy, mad addictive place!!!

You just got home and you've got a pixie dust hangover. Give it a month to wear off. Then take a cold, hard look at what just a few days will cost you compared to waiting until you have the time, money and DVC points saved up to take a real trip. Flights are going to cost a lot whether you go for 3 days or 30. Ticket prices are front-loaded so that a few days cost almost as much as a week. A couple of days in Disney is probably only going to make you want to go back again, not satisfy the yearning you have.

IMO, it doesn't make sense to "take a quick trip" unless you've got an AP and your transportation & accommodation costs are minimal.

It's the Disney withdraw. We all get it, and it is death gripping, like hanging onto a cliff and not wanting to let go. Okay while that may be extreme, we feel you anguish. I agree with PP that said give it a month. We did the SW card and we will all fly free next June, so now we can stay and play longer.

Good luck!

Just start to plan. Once you get your points "back" have some trips planned that will make great use of them. Have a couple trips planned, perhaps. That way you can do your other trips AND have the plans for WDW in your pocket.

My advice... Plan a terrific first trip with your Uni APs. Stay onsite (please), stay for a decent amount of time so you can get the fun and the relaxation that an onsite Uni trip provides. Really do it up for that first trip on your Uni APs, and just focus on the APs you have.

After that think about if WDW needs to be added to those other trips or if the expense can be saved for the future.

I'm so not any help. I had a dodgy summer, so I'm spending the money to fly to Disney for one night, hit magic kingdom until midnight close the next day and then head straight to the airport to go home

You are all so funny! It's been a month since we've been back. I am super close to earning a SW CP. We had 20 months between our last 2 trips, and there were new things to see and do. I don't want to go now ( well- I would but logistically its tricky) but am sort of missing the planning. By the time we went- I had HAD IT with the planning.

We have gone to Disney yearly for the past 10 years. One year (around 4 years ago), we did not go. I have to be totally honest, the trip after the skipped year was more magical. It really did feel more exciting and the anticipation was really high with that trip. We just went in August and my husband said he is "tired" of Disney. I think if he never went again, he would be fine with it. I am hoping to go in 2 years, maybe I will just go with my children because I don't want a grouchy husband with me at Disney!

One of the best things of going often has been experiencing different things with our son, who is 13. The first time we went he was five. If we skip every other year, we only have 2 more trips before college :(

Check your credit card account online. That always solves any spending question I have.

These 2 posts are like the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other! Lol! The angel is actually the one saying check the credit card....and the devil is whispering "go to disney" over and over....

I'm guilty of booking a trip for this Dec right after getting home from WDW last April. I told myself maybe just a short trip to see the holiday decorations....then I talked to my mother who was like "Let's do it!" ....next thing I know flights are booked and DH, my parents, my 2 DS and I are going in 67 days!!

This is how I justify going, usually once a year (it'll be twice this yeat). My boys are 8 and 6. I know how fast time goes so I want to enjoy them there while they're still little....although I know we can enjoy it in different ways when they're teens.

We took a quick trip in March to Universal (on site at the RPR) and with flights, tickets, hotel etc i regret it! for the cost of a few more nights in the hotel, basically, we could've had a much longer, more relaxing trip. I agree with others who say wait. I know it's hard, trust me, I do! I'm kicking myself now about how much that 4 day trip cost me

This is what we'd say too. Our last trip was 15 years ago (yes you read that right) and we kind of halfway did it then (4 days, off site, etc). We have done a lot of other things since then but this time we waited and saved our money to bring our children. We're going for 7 nights/7 days in a suite and we will fully enjoy it. It's worth waiting for.

I'm always vacationed out when we first return. A few months later and the Disney itch returns. I find that planning, even if it's far away, helps. I agree with some off the other posters, I would rather suffer the longing than plan a mini-trip. For us, it would be a waste of $ and just make me want a better trip sooner. As I re-read my words, I realize I sound like an addict. :)

Thats how I feel. I cannot even imagine listening to friends and family who have the opinion that we should travel elsewhere.
