Question:

We are planning a future cruise on Disney--hubby has only done a 7-day western on Carnival and I have done 3 and 4 days and a 7 day on carnival.

We are so wanting to go on a Disney cruise--we have two kids currently almost 4 and 1.5

For those who must save a while for these vacations--do you find it better to spend less to go sooner (i.e. hit the 3 or 4 day mark and do a cat 11 or 12 ditto the 7day)....or save more, go later and move a few categories up and take a longer cruise.

At this point we just want to be Disney-ized. I fear not enjoying the cruise from an inside cabin--but then splurge on a window--then it is the whole, well how much time do you spend in your cabin anyway.

We are 2-3 years out in the planning--should we wait longer and move on up--or go as soon as possible :)

HELP!

I personally would do the 3 or 4 day sooner (as I am doing lol) You can always save up afterwards for a 7 day after that. Tax refunds are a wonderful thing if you get one and goes a long way to paying it off.

yes---but then we are riding in a cat 12--anyone who knows about those cabins (other than they go quickly, probably)

I've read that the cat. 12's are underneath the clubs = loud for sleeping babies. I'm not sure if any of the 12's even can fit 4 people?

We started saving up and planning for our cruise back when our 4 year old was just over a year old. I wanted her to be potty trained and able to be away from us for a couple of hours and still be happy when we took our cruise. I counted on that being true by the time she was 4 and it was!!! I'm sure a 3 or 4 day would be better than no cruise, but they sound so short, not as relaxing. We loved our 7 day with a balcony and for us it was worth waiting for. Best wishes on making your choice.

If u look at the cost of a 3 or 4 day ... Very expensive
u will not have to save to much more to do a 7 day ...

I dont think the cabin is going to make or Break your cruise lots of people stay in 11 or 12..

it is just a place to sleep shower and so on ...
u wont be there much at least we arent ....

But we spoil our selfs and go cat 7 .... we get one of the recently downgraded staterooms use to be cat 5... so many people complained that Disney changed it to cat 7...

we did stay cat 9 on our last cruise would have stayyed cat 10 but could not get the room we wanted on deck 5...

check out this link for some more stateroom info....
Some VERY WELL KNOWN DISNEY SECRETS...

Will help u .. Get the best room At a lesser price if u feel like spoiling your self. Tooo...

or just would like to get a Porthole With out paying for it...

And they do offer Florida Residents discounts.....
So i say go for the 7 day... I also sent u a personal message...

I prefer the lower cabin, cruise sooner option. We must save for any of our vacations. (I do agree, tax refunds do wonders)

I'd stay in a Cat 11 and cruise a 7 day. That's exactly what we are doing. You can often catch a Cat 11 in the off season (sept - nov) for $799.

That's the only way we can go. The inside cabins are nice for napping. It's always dark.

We're definitely Category 11 once or twice a year people!

Those Cat. 11 and 12 rooms go to all the same places as the Cat. 1 and 2, at the same time! I can always go outside if I need to see where we are or what the weather is, or two watch the sunset (or sunrise).

I would say save up longer and go the way you want to. Not only do you have the price of the cruise but alos the extras while on board or in port. Taking a vaation while trying to pinch pennies wouldn't be very relaxing. My DH think probably every 2 years should be enough time to save $$. ALso, I don't think I would spend the extra for a verandah, our first cruise was a cat 11 but this time we "splurged" on a cat 9.....it is till to be determined if it is worth it...I will let you know when we return.....

If your kids were older, I would say go on the shorter cruise sooner. But since your kids are so young, I would wait until the youngest is old enough for the Oceaneer Club (age 3 and potty trained) before going.

We took our kids to Disneyland when they were 4 1/2 and they barely remember thing (we have twins). One of the BEST parts of the Disney Cruise is that time you get to enjoy alone while the kids are in the club or lab.

I don't know anything about the nursery, but that is an option for the youngest one.

A lot has to do with how 'you' feel about waiting. I know a family that goes every other year so they can do a 7 day. My family has decided we would rather go every year and just do the 7 day a couple of times (this year being one of them--we wanted to try both the Western and Eastern 7 night once, we did the Western so this year is the Eastern---but we already have our 4 night booked for next year).

I 'need' to know that I am on the ship once a year. It gets me through the winter here :sunny: . Waiting more than a year would be depressing for me. BUT my kids are older, and I wouldn't want to go with one in diapers too young to go into the club (but that is just me).

I am blessed to live close to WDW and have been brainwashing the kids since birth.

My oldest turns 4 in 2 months and while cannot remember that she went on this day--she remembers WDW, characters et cetera.

18 month old--if we stopped and never went again, probably wouldn't remember--but totally recognizes it when we go.

I agree to wait until she is 3 (it'd take that long to save minimally)...so she can enjoy the kiddie clubs for "free"

Also, from what I searched elsewhere--I can book what I can afford at an unpopular time (we plan homeschooling--so no worries of missing class :) And hope for an upgrade.

I like the Cat 11 idea--maybe my hubby will do more on the boat than he did on our honeymoon (okay I'm walking into that one! ) He didn't like how busy the ships were on Carnival and I am the activity queen!!! Having to leave the stateroom and actually enjoy the ship--I think I could do that with a Cat 11!

Thanks for the tips!!!

I am putting my savings plan together!

Who forgoes any vacation in lieu of saving for their DCL vacation?
