Savannahs at AKL

I know there are 3 savannahs at AKL but I am not clear as to the pro's and con's of each. Can anyone explain? From what I have read, many people request to be on Zebra Trail. Is the Zebra Trail and Kudu Trail overlooking the same savannah? Why does Zebra seem to be preferable to Kudu? Thanks!

People seem to prefer the Zebra Trail because it's closer to the food court (Mara) and pool. If you stay far enough away from the lobby on the Kudu Trail, you can have quite a walk to these locations.

When my dh + I were at AKL in January, we stayed on the Zebra Trail overlooking the Arusha Savannah. We had a terrific view of the animals and quick access to the Mara and pool. FYI, the lobby of AKL is on the 3rd floor. If you have a room near the lobby on the 3rd floor, you will have a lot of foot traffic outside your door, which was not to our taste. We asked to be moved right after we checked in and were immediately moved to a 4th-floor room that was farther away from the elevator banks and foot traffic. It was blissfully quiet.

Make sure to walk all over the lodge--there are animal viewing areas everywhere and each savannah has its own flavor. When we stay there again, we are going to request the Sunset Savannah because we enjoyed the bongos a lot. A great place to see the animals is not an "official" viewing area--go to the ends of the corridors and onto the outdoor staircases. The views from these staircases are awesome.

There are three 11-acre savannahs at AKL. Sunset Savannah, Arusha Savannah and Uzima Savannah. Each savannah has its own set of wildlife and hoofstock as follows:

Sunset Savannah: Male giraffe, bongo, impala, Thompsons gazelles, ostrich, Ankole cattle, waterbuck, African crown cranes, stork and blue cranes.

Arusha Savannah: Pelicans, geese, giraffe, ankole cattle, zebra, wildebeast, eland, gemsbok.

Uzima Savannah: Giraffe, impala, kudu, bongo, blesbok, Thompsons gazelles.

Where the rooms face: Zebra trail rooms overlook the Arusha savannah (odd number rooms) and the Uzima Savannah (even number rooms). Kudu trail rooms overlook Arusha Savannah (odd number rooms) or Sunset Savannah (even number rooms). Even numbered rooms in Ostrich Trail will overlook Sunset Savannah, while the odd number rooms overlook the valet area. On Giraffe Trail, the even number rooms will overlook the pool, while the odd number rooms overlook the valet area.
