Savannah, GA

I think you will love Savannah. I live in GA and this is my favorite city. Your kids may enjoy the Pirate House on the river, a restaurant that once housed real pirates, supposedly the inspiration for Treasure Island. Tybee Island is also a must see. You could spend a whole week exploring historics mansions and squares. Hope you have a great time.

When we went to Savannah there was one place I definitely had to try. Paula Deen's restaurant, ane we loved it! It's called the Lady and Sons.

I am an Atlanta native, and have been to Savannah numerous times. I highly recommend you start with the Trolley Tour (Old Town Trolley Tours). This will take you through several of the squares, give you a ton of history and trivia, and a feel for the city. Then you can go back on foot to the places you want to see again. There is a lot of history in Savannah. Bonaventure cemetery and Colonial Park cemetery are awesome to walk around in. River street has lots of shops and places to eat. There are also walking ghost tours at night. I think the best bang for the buck is the Trolley Tour, and then see what interests you. Have fun!

I've never been to Savannah but I want to go just or that! I love Paula!

We were just down there back in April. Love Savannah. Walk along the River Walk. You can take your drinks with you :cool1:
We did the Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil Tour which was very cool...if you liked the book or movie of course.
Also, if you have any WWII buffs with you go to the Mighty 8th Airforce Museum.

Finally, stop off at Jeckhyl (sp) Island on the way down and stop off at the Sea Turtle Conservation Center.

We're traveling down and planning on stopping in Savannah for a day and 1/2. Any suggestions on must dos?

Another fun thing to do is the ghost walk. We really enjoyed it. And I agree about doing the trolley tour. You will get to see everything and hear about the history. Then you can decide what to do. It is a beautiful city and lots of little squares that your children will enjoy playing in. It is nice to just take a picnic lunch and a Frisbee and sit and relax.

Hi another Ga native
I too recommend river street :thumbsup2
and the whole town itself is just plain beautiful!

I was born, raised, and still live in Savannah and I love it here!

If you want to eat at Lady and Sons (Paula Deen's restaurant), be prepared to wait. There is always a long line but worth it.

Someone also mentioned "The Pirate's House". It is great, but I would go during lunch. They have a WONDERFUL buffet and it is alot cheaper than going at dinner time (no buffet). If you go, be sure and ask your waiter about a tour. They will give you a free tour of the restaurant after you finish your meal. They will tell you about the history and all of the spooky things that have happened there.

Savannah also offers historical and ghost tours which are great. The walking ghost tour at night is the best. You can take tours on a bus, trolly, horse drawn carriage, or hearse tour. That is right, hearse:scared1:. You can get all of this information at the visitor's center.

There is also a lot of Historic house museums. The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace museum is interesting (founder of the girl scouts). I used to work there in college.

River Street and City Market have a lot of great restaurants and shops. Vinnie's pizza is the best.

Tybee Island is not far either, if you would like to go to the beach. If you are visiting in the next few months you might catch Miley Cyrus (Hanna Montana) at Tybee. She is currently filming a movie.

Send me a message and let me know what you are interested in doing and I will send you some infomation. I love living in Savannah and sharing it with others.

Have a great trip.:goodvibes
