We moved to Savannah last year, we love it here. The city is beautiful, the people are sweet and quirky. The city is made up of a grid with many parks in it. Very old, beautiful houses around the squares. I would love to take a carriage ride or even a trolley tour, haven't done either yet. There is historic River Street, which is a nice walk with shops, restaurants, and the river on the other side. We don't go out to eat much downtown, but The Lady and Sons is very popular (too popular, I think there is always a wait) by Paula Deen of Food network fame. The Pirate House is a neat restaurant with great food and atmosphere, it was supposedly a "safe" house for the pirates that used to come in from the river with their booty..sounds like a kiddie restaurant, but it is actually a nicer restaurant-white tablecloths/napkins..
One thing to be wary of, there is a lot of crime around Savannah. Watch yourself if you are walking around alone at night in the parks...in fact, don't...I don't know why the city lets such a beautiful area become crime ridden like that, but it is kind of dangerous. Daytime should be fine. Be aware of your surroundings.
If you are adventurous, Lady Chablis (from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) still does her show, I've heard. The person you saw in the movie is the actual Lady Chablis. That is a show I would like to see.
If you like the beach, head on out to Tybee Island. On the way is Fort Pulaski, if you like that kind of thing. It was featured in the reality show "Treasure Hunters" recently. Cool fort. There are several beaches on Tybee, the one with the light house is our fav. You can go in the light house, and there is a fort on the beach. The beach is very clean, the restaurant there has awesome food and drinks, and it will not be crowded. The weather should be perfect for the beach. Usually when we go there we see a school (or is it pod...I dont' know?) of dolphins that swim by to check out the land creatures...Don't get too brave, there is a very strong undertow/current.
I know this isn't much to speak of, but if you go to the Welcome Center downtown, I am sure they can help you with more things to chose from. Savannah is a beautiful lady, we just love her...

have a great, safe trip!
