My husband and I are hoping to be moving to Savannah, GA within the next year. When my husband said he wanted to look for jobs there I got super excited thinking we'd be around 4 hours away! To you all that are 4 hours away, do you do day trips? I don't know if that is too far for just a day. I will definitely do overnight trips. Just not sure about 4 hours.

I am in Atlanta, which is about five and a half hours. I could not imagine a day trip and, in fact, I am going to the MK and EPCOT late October for five days. But I can tell you that it is great being so close :-)

I am so excited about being that close! I told my husband that I wouldn't mind taking a couple of long weekend trips every year.

Yes! I lived in Tampa for 16 years, so going to Disney was a one day thing. Eventually, though, I moved to Vermont (I hated -- and still hate -- FL). Vermont was way too far (not to mention the winters and the fact that they kill you with property and other taxes!). Eventually, we ended up moving to Atlanta, which seems like the perfect place to be. But when it dawned on me Disney was so much closer, and a car drive away, THAT did it for me. Though I could not imagine now going for just a weekend (and not just because those are really crowded days). So, I am going for 6 days (including check-in and check-out days). I will make a beeline for the park when I get there on check-in day, but check-out will be the drive home. So, I got five day park hopper tickets.

My mother used to live in Clearwater Beach, which is just south of Tampa and I'm guessing around a 3 or 4 hour drive and she and my brother often did day trips. They had annual passes and would just pack a lunch and go to Disney for the day. I live in Athens, GA, which is about 7 1/2 hours away according to the GPS but I usually make it in around 7 and we have been known to do long weekends. I love Savannah, it is one of my favorite places and actually do a lot of long weekends there, it is about a 5 hour drive from here and I can't imagine doing that in one day. You may find you fall in love with the area and find plenty to do there. Visit Jeykll Island and go on the historic tour while you are there, it is my #1 favorite place to go here in in Georgia and I always stay at the Club while there.

I'm in Waycross, which is about two hours southwest of Savannah and about 3 1/2 to 4 hours from WDW. I have family that lives in the Orlando area and occasionally do day-trips for things like weddings, but it's taxing being in the car for that long in a single day. I don't think I could do a day trip to Disney and then have to drive all the way home afterward. We do, however, do weekend trips to the Orlando area pretty frequently (getting down there on a Friday night and leaving to come home on Sunday morning/afternoon).
