Are you looking for somewhere just to stop and stay, or are you wanting to go in the city for an experience? We're partial to Marriotts, so if you are just looking for someplace to stay, there is a Spring Hill Suites right off of I95 as well as others like Hampton Inn, etc. The area is ok...
Savannah itself is a beautiful city, and one of my favorite cities. I just adore it's rich history. We have family that lives close, so we really don't stay much in the city, but we have stayed at the Westin Savannah Harbor, (very nice and pricey, we stayed for our anniversary one year) it is across the river from the actual city of Savannah, in a beautiful location, and you look across the river at the city. There are boats to shuttle you across the river to the heart of the river walk area with lots of shops, hotels and restaurants.
We've also stayed at the Marriott Savannah Riverfront, right on the river close to a lot of the shops and restaurants.
If you are looking for something specific, I would try Trip Advisor, it ranks hotels in the city and gives pretty accurate photos and reviews of the hotels. I would try to keep within the riverside/historic districts if you are wanting to be within the city.
As for restaurants go, there are a few really touristy places that many will steer you to, like Mrs. Wilkes' Boarding House, Paula Deen's place, but honestly they are just not that good. There are sooo many little restaurants/cafes that are wonderful, you can find something to your liking if you ask. I honestly can't remember the names of any places we've eaten. If you ask when you are there, I'm sure you will find something nice. Or someone here might post. If you don't get many responses, post it on the Community Board, it gets a lot more traffic.
THe only "touristy" restaurant I would recommend is The Olde Pink House, it's historic, upscale and very good, but pricey too.
Hope you have a great stop in Savannah and a great trip to WDW!
