I'm going to Disney World!

We (I) made a quick decision to go to WDW with my 5-year-old grandson from Nov 28th- Dec 5. All the ADRs are gone, and while I'm still checking for Chef Mickey's the day we arrive, I'm not all that hopeful.

So, without park tickets for that day I was wondering what would be a good "Welcome to WDW!" meal/visit for my GS that may be available and fun for both of us. We will have a car, but are also staying on property and I'd prefer to not drive (leaving here at 5:30 AM that day!).

I haven't been to WDW since Jan 2003, and haven't been to the Boardwalk ever. I was in Downtown Disney in 2003 for dinner and walking around (with my GS's mom as a teenager, actually).

I'd love to take him to Chef Mickey's, and to ride the Monorail around. But if that is out, then where is a good place for a slightly-tired 5 year old and his grandma?

Thank you for any help- things have changed so much in the last 13 years!

What time do you think you will be getting to Orlando? Personally if I didn't have tickets on Arrival day, I would probably spend it at Downtown Disney/Disney Springs. And if I were looking for a good meal for kids at Downtown Disney, I would go to T-Rex.

Another good option would be Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club, which is very close to the Boardwalk. Its a character meal and it seems most people prefer it over Chef Mickeys. They also appear to have open reservations on the 28th.

I am actually going down from Nov 30th - December 8th. One thing that I plan to do is check out the different resorts that are all decorated for Christmas. Grand Floridian and Wilderness Lodge are reported as being very impressive. You can find more info at the below link.

Cape May only has Characters at breakfast. Best bet for arrival day would probably be Disney Springs(formerly Downtown Disney). There's usually some live entertainment on the Boardwalk in the evenings, juggling, magic tricks & such by buskers. They usually involve a kid or two in the entertainment. Even if you can't get a reservation @ Chef Mickey's you could still take a ride on the Monorail and get off for a while to visit & see the decorations at each of the three resorts. Each one has a Quick Service restaurant.
