I am in the area for work and was thinking of doing a day at DisneyLand prior to my flight. Any ideas on how bad the crowds will be with mother's day and a 1/2 marathon.
Thanks

I do think Haunted Mansion will be busier than the average weekend. Supposedly they're adding a new element (click link for more information) into the attraction during it's brief closure this week. So I would anticipate some folks coming in to see what's new in the Haunted Mansion.

I do think the marathon will increase crowds in the parks and DTD on Saturday. I was there for the Avenger's Marathon weekend in November, and DTD was quite busy (although, it's usually pretty busy on a Saturday). If you have to drive into the parks, be prepared for a long line of cars getting into the parking structure.

May 9th is also the "red carpet" premiere of Tomorrowland (the movie) at DTD AMC, with an "after party" in Tomorrowland (in Disneyland).

I wonder if they'll open HM early on Friday. If not we are planning to go there at rope drop Sat as we go home Sat afternoon.

With the refurbishment being so short (May 4 to 8), I don't think it's very likely that they'll end it early and do a soft opening on Friday. Anything is possible, but in this case, I don't think it's very likely.

On all the crowd tracking web sites it says that Saturday is supposed to be pretty packed. Im assuming due to the marathon weekend. My parents tried to get a hotel and all Disney hotels were sold out!

Thanks for all of the information. I think if I try to go, I will leave my hotel in Carlsbad around 5 am and try to get in the parking lot by 7 am. Stay until 4 and head out to get my 9 pm flight in San Diego.

how early do you think you would need to be there to avoid long parking lines?

Just got back from a 2 day trip to do the Neverland 5K. We were at DL for regular rope drop at 9 and headed to HM after grabbing FP's for the first Frozen play. There was a line stretching from the gates to the mansion (which were closed) to almost the train station before they started the queue outside the mansion. About 5 min later the gates opened and folks were led into the Mansion. Some folks grabbed FP's as the standby queue passed the entrance to the FP machines then got back in line so they could go for a 2nd ride in an hour.

We were through by 9:40, then had some time to head over to Tomorrowland which was not too crowded - probably because so many folks had gone over to HM -especially since they had MM at 8am.

At any rate, we stayed at DL until noon when we had to go catch our flight home. Crowds were moderate for a Saturday and we loved seeing the Hatbox Ghost effect. It was just after the bride before the ride turns to head down into the graveyard. Next time we'll definitely get fast passes but it was fun to be in line with so many HM diehards, many in various fun costumes.
