Saturation question

Unless you buy Spyder or Huey calibration system.

I bought the Spyder2 Express a couple of months ago and would highly recommend it--very simple to use, and on my monitor anyway, there is a vast difference between the default monitor settings and the calibrated version. Perhaps I could have achieved the same thing without dropping $60 or $70 on the Spyder gizmo, but it seems easier this way.

This image should gradually go from black to white(and inverse), it should also be very nuetral in color(not pinkish or bluish).
let us know how it looks.

Yes, goes from black to white and there is no pick or blue. I hope this means my monitor is o.k. I also have a dell. I changed brightness...brought it way down. Can't change contrast. It's blocked out. I'll see if this does anything.

Well it does not sound like you have obvious calibration(gamma) issues, if there was TOO MUCH black(or white) on one side then there would be obvious calibration issues.
My buddy just called 2 weeks ago so I sent him the image, on his PC it was solid black for about a THIRD of the way over from where it should have started fading to gray meaning his moniter was too DARK(low gamma). That caused him to apply too much brightness to images and his prints came back very FADED looking, now he says they are exactly what they look like on his screen.

No eyeballing is not as effective as complete calibration, but it should be adequate for most.
