Hi everyone,

Inspired by Claddagh's thread (thanks, Claddagh!) what does anyone think about the choices on Satellite?

Basically there are a few select channels I would love to get but I only seem to be able to get them if I go for an expensive "all included" option.

All I really want are:

The Disney channel(s) (for my daughters, you understand ;))
The travel channels
MTV
The odd film
and possibly UK Gold :teeth:

We definitely don't need any extra Sports channels - neither DH or myself are into sport at all (particularly not footie) but all the channels seem to include a multitude of sporting options - which I guess may increase the price.

The cheapest deal I've seen which includes my "wants" is about £35+ per month - and I'm too mean to pay that much for the channels I want!

Has anyone got any good ideas or should I bite the bullet and go for it anyway?

Thanks

Karen

:Pinkbounc Hey Karen

We've got Sky and I don't know what we'd do without it, we've got 2 DD's who love their music channels and the kids channels like Disney, Nickelodeon and Trouble. Hubby loves his sports channels and I love things like Most Haunted on Living TV and more documentary and travel channels. But even with such a huge selection, it's amazing how there can still be nothing decent to watch especially in the Summer.

Here's a link to Sky's packages.

http://www.ordersky.com/channelpackages

Click on the channel listing to see what each offers. You could try the Family package (£19.50) with the Disney Channels as an add-on and see if that costs less than one of the World packages (which I think are seriously overpriced!!). Actually, I've just worked it out! To add the Disney Channel to the Family Package would cost an extra £5 per month so you're looking at £24.50 a month for 100 or so channels. If you just want the odd film now and again you can get these through Sky Box-office, usually around £3 a film and you order these through your digital remote and it is then added to your monthly bill.

Food for thought!!

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

I didn't realise I could customize packages Night-train, what a great idea!:hyper:

I am off to investigate now :)

Thanks again,

Karen

Hi Karen

After many years of Sky subscribing, we have finally decided enoughs enough and we are getting it turned off...
We only watch Sky 1 and the Disney Channel anyway.
I don't know how its gonna be without it, but we'll find out soon:D

I love my Sky:lovestruc

We have the full package and this year got Sky+ too, I couldn't live without it now.

We watch Sky One, Living, E4, Sky News, Movies, Disney Channel and Music Channel's most.

I have all my favourit programmes set up to record on Sky+ and all series linked.

Definately go for it :)

Be careful when booking a package with Sky - they have a habit of giving you the full package even if you have requested a cheaper package! You then can't change back to your requested package until the next month - I guess they hope that after a month off getting the full package you won't want to change back!

We have the family package plus the Disney channels and it seems to satisfy our needs. Although sometimes we still sit there channel hopping trying to find something decent to watch - even with 100+ channels to choose from

Apart from the terrestrial channels we tend to watch Discovery Home and Leisure and the other Discovery Channels a lot. Youngest DD loves the Animals channels and the Kids channels, including all the Disney channels and our eldest DD spends her time flicking between all the music channels.
Hardly ever watch Sky One or any of the 'repeats' channels.

We have all of Sky channels too. I have to say that I hardly watch the normal terrestial channels except channel 4.

We watch a lot of the sports channels, movies is a must for me, E4 OMG I couldn't live without it and the Music channels help keep me a little up to date when I'm ironing.

Disney Channel is a must for me LOL we don't have kids but I love it.

And I love to watch the shopping channels mainly for entertainment purposes rather than shopping LOL how sad am I ?

Paul watches a lot of UK Gold and Granada Plus and we both love all the UK style etc programmes to watch House and DIY stuff.

Oh yeah and then Sky News is a firm favourite.

Yet I insist that I actually do not watch a lot of TV.....hmmm interesting ;)

Kaylee - I'm trying to persuade Paul to get Sky+ we deffo need this as you know I keep missing my fav shows and I really cannot remember the last time we used our VCR  LOL Paul doesn't even know how to work it :p

Sam you will wonder why you never got Sky + earlier :) Definately go for it :)

Im a bit confused by Sky+ (not hard!!). Is it just a one off payment for the box, or is there a subscription as well? Its something I quite fancy as our video broke ages ago and didnt seem worth replacing as we only watch DVDs now, and barely record anything.

We have all Sky channels except Sports (Yaaaawwwn!). To be honest, I think its a lot of money a month for 300 channels of mostly tosh. The kids watch Playhouse Disney, Nick jr and Cbeebies endlessly, but apart from that not much else. I do admit to watching Most Haunted on Living, some music vids on Q and film gossip on E, but there isnt much "Quality" viewing. Even the Discovery Channel , National Geographic and the like are good to begin with, then you realise they just repeat the same shows, week after week.

For some top rate entertainment, though, Sky is worth getting for one program alone....Whatters Crazeee Christmas on the shopping channel Ideal World, Saturday nights at 10pm. Its a total hoot....anyone else admit to watching this? A mind numbing selection of totally useless and naff Chrissy ornaments, lights and inflatable 30ft Snowmen, presented by a presenter camper and more orange than Dale Winton. Its fab :teeth: .

Allie, it is a one-off payment of £199 + installation for the Sky+ box as long as you already subscribe to 1 (or is it 2?) premium sky channels. If you don't then it is a £10 per month subscription fee on top of your sky package. In my opinion it is completely worth it!

I'm pretty sure you need to subscribe to two premium channel packages in order for the £10 fee to be waived. I agree that it's well worth it. Even allowing for the occasional gremlin that all technology seems to have it's miles more reliable than a video recorder and much more flexible.

One thing to bear in mind if you're thinking of getting it is that Sky are launching a version with a higher capacity in October - about 3 or 4 times more than the 20 hours of the current box. It's a fair bit more money as well, but best to be in a position to make an informed choice.

Paul

Thanks for the info. We are (hopefully) moving in the next few months, so wont be doing anything till we are in the new house.

We have Sky - the full package, and we do watch quite a lot - the kids couldn't live without Fox Kids or Boomerang and Disney Channel - (worth it for Recess alone IMHO). We love the movies - and the kids too are now quite used to having a look to see what movies are on. We also love the Travel channels, and LivingTV for Queer Eye, then all the golden oldies on UKGold and Plus, and not forgetting CHiPs (My particular favourite..........;) ) on Bravo.

We'll be moving house in 5 weeks and hoping to get Sky+ then.

There seems to be new channels appearing almost every night though!!!

Cath:D
