Does anyone here have satellite internet? My mother is buying it tomorrow. I've heard good things and bad but nothing first hand. Those that have used it, did it work well? Did you like it?

I have Directv, but their internet option is too pricey for me. When it's storming out real bad, we can lose the signal for awhile. I just wonder if that happens with the internet too?

We're with Starband and the service has been great! I'd say it's not quite as fast as the DSL connections I've seen but certainly better than the dial up we had before. Customer service has been wonderful... and in the year or so that we've had it we've only lost connection maybe once or twice and only for a few minutes each time.

I personally don't have it but this is what I know.

It's great for webbrowsing and such. Almost as fast as DSL.

It also is affected by weather just like sat tv, but it has to be really heavy weather to block it.

It also is useless for any 'online' gaming. Not something I think your mom will be doing much of.

She won't be doing any online gaming however she will be logging onto her ethernet at work to do emailing, log onto applications at work etc. That will work for her won't it?
