My son took the SAT back in January and was able to get his scores last night over the internet. I remember having to wait two or so months to get my scores. There is a charge for gettiing the answers early but it is worth it.

My dd took hers on January 25- she's only 13 so it isn't like we need them right off but I am curious.

I assume that you DD took the SAT as part of the Duke Talent Identification Program. I hope that you are considering the TIP. My middle child has been going to the TIP for the last two summers and loves it. She is still in contact by e-mail with the people she met on this program.

If you are curious go to the College board webpage and enter your child's information. You need to pay for the early results but it may be worth it.

We got my son's results so we could start planning which colleges we might want to visit over spring break.

fklhou-there a number of fine talent Id programs all over the country that ecourage students to take the SAT-both my sons have participated such programs since grade5-they get great results and lots of opportunities.

My 13 dd was invited to participate in the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Program, similar to the TIP program. She qualified last year, however we opted not to particpate as we felt she really needed some down time, plus we travel quiet a bit in the summers. However this year she is going to participate in the first session they have, held at Movarian College in Pennsylvania.

I also went online and got her SAT scores. I think that is really neat--not all that waiting we use to have to do---and I agree it is well worth the $13. I will tell you, I cannot believe the scores that kids likes these get on the SAT's. My dd scored a 610 verbal and 630 math!!! To me that is just so unreal for a kid in 8th grade. Now the big thing is not to see her burn out, have some fun and do some mindless activities, help her see whats out there in the world for her, and pray she stays as sweet and kind as she is.

I also got my scores over the internet.. but I didn't see what the big deal was waiting the extra two weeks. I'm not going to pay for my scores if I'm going to find them out anyway - and for free.

Congratulations on your DD's scores that is very good for an eight grader. Good luck on finding the right program. My DW and I have been very impressed with the Duke program.

It was helpful to get my DS's scores early so we could do some planning on which colleges to set up visits during spring break. We meet with his college counselor later this month and want to see which schools they recommend.

Can you please share some info about this program.

I'm thinking about letting my son do this next summer, he's 11 now.

Several students in his class did the John Hopkins program last year and will do it again this summer. Three are going to Stanford for their program.

How did the 11 and 12 year olds feel about taking the SATs? Do you do any prep classes? If DS takes the SATs next Jan., will we get the results in time to sign up for the program?

Please forgive me for asking so many questions. I've asked the parents at son's school but none of them have any knowledge of the program at Duke.

disneyjunkie -- I may be wrong, but I believe TIP is limited to several states, mostly in the Southeast. At least this was the case a few years ago when my son was involved. The programs themselves are offered at Duke and at some other colleges. My son was ambivalent about taking the SAT. It probably helped that he was at a small private school and almost everyone in his class took it. They did go to a regular testing site and sit next to juniors and seniors.

That site should answer a lot of your questions. My sons are both in the program, but we are not able to take part in the summer educational programs due to travel distance, as well as sports activities throughout the summer.

My 12 year old has taken the ACT twice and the SAT once. It's no big deal to him.

Good luck!

My dd is taking part in the Johns Hopkins Search for Talented Youth. I'm going to see about getting those results now. Thanks FKLHOU!

The link on the TIP program is excellant. My middle child has been to the TIP program for the last two summers and intends to come back this summer. One of my lawpartne' DD did the program for several years and enjoyed it.

The couses are excellant and very stimulating. Everytime our DD called from TIP she was extremely excited and happy. Over a four week period, each class is very similar to a college course. The first year, my DD took psychology and the text they used was a college text book.

My DD is still friends with her classmates. She e-mails about a dozen of her friends from TIP on a weekly basis. Each of these kids appear to be kids you want your children to be friends with, i.e. high achieving good kids who care about learning.

Good luck and have fun. My dd will probably be a the second session on the Duke campus. If you decide to send your child to Duke, please PM and I will try to give you the benefit of whatever we have learned about the program.
