Sorry if this has come up before...
Having spent many times driving the wrong way up and down 192 (clearly dw's fault!!!), I'd quite like to get a PDA and gps which will work in Orlando.
Has anyone any ideas. I've looked around a few sites and have basically confused myself!
I'd be good if it also worked in the UK, obviously new maps would be needed for that.
Any thoughts/ideas...
TIA.

I've used GPS Warehouse a couple of times to buy sat.nav kit. They seem to stock a good range of units, including PDA based, and are happy to provide advice over the phone. Perhaps give them a call?

In my experience the PDA based sat.nav units are cheaper than the dedicated units, but slightly more complicated to use. All the sat.nav units I've seen will work in the USA and the UK (and most other countries) provided you buy the appropriate map software.

Rob

Ian, just a quick thought: some cars (my Peugeot 206 included) cause sat.nav units problems as the windscreens have a particular coating which do not allow the GPS signal to pass through. Best to check whether your car would fall into this category before you commit to spending £££s.

We just got a GPS for our PDA, it was only 100 pounds from Global positioning systems (tel no 08453 45 42 45) and is compatible with most PDAs. It just slides in the compact flash port and is very compact and easy to use. We use it mainly for private flying but have the tom tom software for the car. We find the software very accurate and user friendly. We have had no signal problems with our BMW cars, but you can get an external ariel if required!! This company may be able to advise you on software for Orlando!!!

Thanks all.
I'll have a good look at that website Rob. I thought I'd remembered seeing you post on this subject before!
Our Fiat Ulysse has a built in sat nav, so I've become a bit spoiled. But it'd be good to be able to use a pda system in dw's car (Citroen Berlingo), I wouldn't imagine her car would have a particularly thick (or fancy coated) windscreen! But it's something to consider...
Has anyone else any experience of pdas/gps in Orlando.
Thanks again all...
Ian

If you rent a car I would look at Hertz as you can get a car with their Neverlost GPS system. I have used these on trips before and they work quite well. They are like the Magellan 700 units out now.

I have not found the perfect software for my PDA and Bluetooth GPS yet. However i know TomTom is big in the UK and they have add ons i believe for the US.

I'd heard about Hertz, unfortunately after I'd booked our car hire with Floridahomes and travel!!!
Maybe next time...
