My husbands work was without computers for most of the day Monday due to it. One of his co-workers also got it on his home computer. We actually did an update last week and then he did one on Monday too, so knock on wood, we are covered.
How do you get it? I got a pop-up box yesterday telling me that I had it and asked if I wanted to scan windows now. I called my brother and told him he said to just X out the screen. Everything went back to normal.
If you have windows 2000 or XP, haven't run windows update in a while and have been online for more than 10 minutes in the last week- you probably are infected.
Dan Murphy posted some very good links on this thread:
You should get a personal firewall and anti-virus, and run windows update.
You can run windows update by clicking on the start button and looking for it toward the top of the list. If it isn't there, use internet explorer and go to microsoft.com and click on Windows Update (in the left tool bar under Resources) Click on Scan for updates, when it is done click on Install. Some updates have to be installed seperately.. so when it is done, let it restart and go back to the windows update, let it scan again it will tell you if there is more to install or if you are all done. It will be time consuming if you have dial up-- but it is still very worth it.
