Saratogo

Okay, all this talk is scarring me. We just filled out the paperwork to purchase 200 points thru re-sale. Is SSR really a bad place to stay???:confused3 It is hard for me to imagine that any resort at WDW is bad. Plus you do not have to stay at your home resort right? And there are other places to stay outside of WDW. For $77 a point I thought that was really good since we will have it until 2054!!:woohoo:

We LOVE it and we have stayed everywhere. We are young so the extra years only made sense to us. Everyone needs something to bash to make there resort look better. 77pt is a great deal and you will love SSR. Atleast we do. :goodvibes Congrats on the new purchase.

IMHO, SSR is not a bad place to stay, but you should have a least tried it out for yourself. I don't understand people paying this much money and not trying it out first. You should have purchased at the resort that you love the most.

We took over two years to decide which resorts to purchase and that was only after visiting each one.

You can stay at other resorts but you can only book 7 months in advance. By then your choices may be limited. You can also stay outside of WDW but most will agree that that is not a good use of points.

Actually we toured SSR when it was first being offered and we were just was not able to afford it at the time. I have been doing the online tours, etc for the past 4 years waiting until I knew we could afford to purchase in. I am also looking forward to using my points to go to Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska. By the time our timeshare is up, my oldest will be 60 and I am sure she will have gotten much enjoyment out of it also.

I suppose it is possible that there are not more SSR sellers by % (Although due to the economy I believe it may be the case), but if there are fewer SSR buyers, then there will appear to be more contracts on the market at any one time.

Just had to say, what a great quote! I've been trying to put that into those exact words; may have to borrow it:thumbsup2

SSR is not a bad place to stay. AND I have to say $77 a point is a good buy.
And you are right there isn't a "bad" DVC resort, just resorts that some DVCers don't want to stay at. We own at SSR and love it. It is possible to stay in other DVCs making reservations at 7 months before you want to stay. Just realize that during the "busy" times, 7 month reservations are sometimes hard to get, so be sure you like your home resort. SSR now includes THVs so you will have 11 month booking advantage for that.

You can book other vacations outside of the DVC resorts including DCL and ABD as well as trading to other timeshares. People will tell you that it is not the best use of points, but remember the points are yours to use, not theirs. We do plan on using our points to go on non DVC vacations, yes not the best use of points. BUT my DH feels that knowing that it's money spent already, he will force himself to go on vacation...he's a workaholic.

Lot of happy SSR owners here. Look for the SSR owners thread.

I think SSR is the least interesting DVC and the largest. Also it cost a lot more than the earlier DVCs. The ecomony has fallen apart. Many folks can't afford such a luxury.

We recently closed on a SSR contract and we are very excited. We choose this resort because we love the look of it, the decor and the fact that we can drive up to our building and not have to treck to our car. I also could care less if the prices keep dropping I bought this for my families use not as an investment. That's what 401K's are for, even though they are taking a beating right now.

I sold my Saratoga contract for 3 reasons. When we purchased - Saratoga was the only offering and although it is a very lovely resort and I love it, it is not my favorite resort. However, it was the only choice offered and we purchased. Since that time we have stayed at all of the DVC's and found that BCV and AKV are hands down our favorite resorts and so those are the two that we wanted to have home resort booking status.

Additionally, we wanted to downgrade and went from 575 points to 175 points and 9 contracts to 3. I made money off my SSR contract, I have the home resorts I want and I know that no matter what - I won't need the home resort advantage to ever book at SSR (I have no interest in the treehouses), so if I want to stay there again, it won't be difficult to book. I'm not trying to resort bash - I was an owner, I love the resort, but I don't need to own there to book there unlike the other resorts.
