We fell in love with Wilderness Lodge when we stayed their, previous to our DVC membership.

We have stayed at SSR a number of times already. I love the resort.

Both resorts have a peaceful vibe to them. SSR has downtown disney within walking distance - so if you want a little nightlife it is right there for you.

I think the theming comes to life more at VWL than SSR, but since I live in SSR, I love the theme. I just think most people don't get into the horses and spa thing.

Most people will probably tell you VWL, it is a no lose situation.

Good Question!

VWL is my favorite resort and SSR is my DH/kids favorite resort.

My reasons for preferring VWL:

The Theme!!!!!!!!! VWL is goregous. It feels like a lake cabin. If L.L. Bean catalouges are something you pore over as if they were porn - you'll be in heaven at VWL. Woodsy-decor in the rooms.

There is a boat (albeit not a speedboat) to the MK.

Excellent, family-friendly TS dining at WCC and signature dining at AP.


My kid's reason for preferring SSR:

Larger pool with more "excitement" in the water-slide.

They love the DTD view & ability to walk to DTD at night after a day at the park.

They rank the CS food as "the best" at Disney (I think it's the art supplies on the tables, not the food that won their hearts)


My husband's reason for preferring SSR:

The decor is more country-club than lake-cabin, and that is what he grew up with.

He likes the bus service.

It's all about the atmosphere you like! If my DH has his way, VWL will be the last place we stay. But then again, he used to live in Alaska, and I think the thought of "Wilderness" in FL just doesn't do it for him.

Where are you from? That may make a difference for you. We live in Maine...and our whole lives are like LL Bean Catalogs...lol...like the previous poster said. Because of this, a vacation at VWL doesn't seem like a vacation to us.

SSR is peaceful and elegant and relaxing and beautiful and...

If yo plan on visiting during the Christmas season every year, go with VWL, They go all out on the decorating at Christmas. If you like to have things close by to be able to walk to go with SSR. Also I have heard that WVL can feel a little isolated at times, (A negative for some, a plus for others) Both resorts are beautiful, I think you would be happy with either.

More like corn and watermelons. VWL is the smallest DVC resort with a hotel-like feel. SSR is the largest DVC resort with a community-type feel. Both are beautiful. We like to stay at both.

They are totally different. Elegance vs Rocky Mountain cottage. The lobby at the WL is awesome!!!! The VWL is my favorite but I do like both.
