Saratoga Springs

Wonder why so much intensity, it is just my opinion. I have read some frank things before, and yes, for the first time, I feel passionate about something and stated it.

Sorry if it offended anyone

Okay gopherit, you story has inspired for me to tell about the special magic on my first trip home. I am not sure where my other post is, but I am more than happy to relive this one :D

When I checkin into SSR the CM's were outstanding great welcome home from everyone. It was just like strolling through a small hometown community. Connie was our check-in person and she is fantastic!!! We got room room 2147, see other posted thread to see the view. It was great!! We have a 6 year old and the playground/pool was right out front. Great view of DTD from the room as well. She touched my stay(by putting us in this great room. she said if we were not happy to let her know, and she did more than that!!) I knew that she loved tinkerbell(she had on tink hose!!)She had wanted to join dvc and had not as of that moment. I bought her the tink dvc pin as a thank you for what she had done.(I feel like she deserved a little something special. Making other people's vacations magical, she needed some magic too) She had made our stay and I wanted to do a little something for her. We have become friends now, and stay in contact by email. I found this to be extremely a touching magical experience. :wizard:

I also had the experience of the special service but on a dvc van. There was not a bus so we decided to start walking to the check-in for EE passes and the van security guard offered us a ride. Now where else do you get treatment like that?!?!?!? From the food court to the shopping area, excellent service all around.

I visited OKW in Oct and I liked it, but was not as touched. Maybe it was me. I will be visting VWL and BCV this year too. 2006 go to Hawaii and I am definitely returning to SSR in 2007. I will also mention, those beds at SSR are great :cloud9: I hope that my inspiration here has touched others the way that I was touch when I was there. princess:

Any one else have the same experiences???? Lets hear them

Anyone see a trend here? Everyone has their own tastes and opinions. While I would never base an opinion on a "drive through", everyone is entitled to theirs.

Personally we feel that is the beauty of DVC. For Spring Break we are staying at OKW where the rooms are bigger and there is a more isolated, relaxed feeling. For visits during the F+W festival you can't beat the location of BCV or BWV. For the Christmas season, you probably can't do better than VWL. When you're looking for more of a shopping/adult type vacation SSR is the place to be.

I think the best advise you can give (which I've read on this website many times) is to visit multiple DVC locations and decide which one is best for you. People with younger children or MK lovers will probably prefer VWL. Families with teens/young adults will probably enjoy BCV/BWV. Older members will probably enjoy OKW or SSR.

Variety is the spice of life. If everyone wanted to stay at the same resort, imagine how tough it would be to get ressies at the 7 month window!!!

I think you received your reaction because of the fact that you are so passionate on a drive through. You missed a large section in front of the lake (can't see it from the car). you missed the fantastic walkways (can't drive it from a car). You missed the openness and how quiet it is (can't appreciate from a car). It would be like dismissing the Magic Kingdom based on driving through the parking lot.

Your loss.

I think the best advice I read here was to do your homework. My first stay at WDW was at the BWV.We fell in love with the place and bought it a short time later. Over the years we have not wanted to stay anyplace else.We love the location to both the theme parks and the waterparks. At nite when we want to go DTD it's only a 2 min drive(yes we drive down from NY every visit ) We have watched the construction of BCV and SSR and they are not for us, not for any reason but location. Believe me we have stayed at the BWV where the room wasn't perfect and some cast memeber certainly tried our patience. I think being it's our first place there has to be a certain amount of sentimental reasons also.Good luck wth your search,I believe you will find a home...

We have stayed at all the DVC resorts including the Beach ones many times. I like them all alot for different reasons.

Yes SSR is large, but so is OKW. Yes there is construction right now,but it won't be that way forever. The buildings I feel completely fit in with the theme of Saratoga NY. If that theme does not appeal to you then SSR would not appeal to you. I don't care for the theme of AKL, but many others do.

We loved the beautiful grounds and the furnishings and decor in the units is some of the finest Disney has ever used. The quality is definitely superb. Just the new sofa bed in itself is a huge plus.

The pool is beautiful, especially at night and as large as the pool at WL and BW. We found the quiet pool to be the nicest at any DVC property, what a view. We went to SSR in August and loved it, I can only imagine how nice it will be when completely finished. We will definitely stay there again.

I do think it is very hard to get a true feel for any resort unless you stay there for several nights. I would never be able to purchase sight unseen and even a tour would not be enough for me. In fact we stayed at all the DVC resorts that were built at that time before we made a purchase.

Debbiedoo, was that Connie from Puerto Rico at SSR? When I was there on my first solo trip ever during Member Homecoming, she was extremely nice and helpful! During MH only 1 bldg was opened and everyone was so attentive and had extra time to talk and I would stop by the front desk to say hi whenever I was close by.

In June we stayed at BCV, but I took Dh and the boys over to SSR to see our guide. I stopped in and introduced Connie to my family and we talked like old friends.

In September Hurricane Jeanne was at SSR the same time we were so I didnt get to check on her.

This Christmas I was told that she moved and I too wanted to give her a little token of appreciation. If this is the Connie and you can help me contact her, please PM me.

Bill, I just purchased SSR on the resale market. Buying resale can save from 6 to 20$ per point depending on what disney is offering for incentives, and your final negotiated price. Another bonus for buying resale is that sometimes you can purchase a contract with banked points which will give you a big bonus of points to use right away.

Good luck Mark

$20 per point savings, where are you seeing this? I havent even seen one yet that was more than $5

if you go that route just remember to factor in closing costs and needing your own financing
