I would recommend staying at one of the sections that has a pool. We stayed at the Paddock and loved the location. The Paddock Pool has a nice small kids water play area and a zero entry. There's even a QS at the pool that has a better food selection than most of the DVC pools. They even serve breakfast.
If you are interested in walking to DTD, Congress Park is the section closest to DTD. If you want to be near the lobby, main pool and restaurants you would request the Springs.
It all depends on what you are looking for. I typically request Grandstand as I love that it's the first stop picked up by the buses and the first drop-off. I also like that it's a short walk to the main area, has it's own themed pool area, but is still set back and quiet. On a trip for a bachelorette party though I requested Congress Park for it's short walk to Downtown Disney. If you want to be close to the main pool and the food options then Springs is your best bet. Also will you have a car, if so, then Paddock or Carousel sections might be nice, as they are quiet and a bit away from things.
Our kids really aren't kids...17, 24, and 26...probably would like to go to Downtown Disney, Epcot, DHS, and one of the water parks...and likely would prefer a quieter pool...Where would you stay at SSR given all this?
With those ages, I'd say Congress Park. It'll be nice and convenient to walk to Downtown Disney. It is also easy walking to the springs to pick up food and snacks. Try to get an upper level room. We had a great 3rd floor 2 bedroom room this week and the view to DD was awesome!

I suppose Congress Park is the only quiet pool remaining in SSR. (Besides the THV pool) Grandstand has the same basic pool, but also has a pool bar with drink refill station and a kids splash area.
The Congress Park pool has an amazing setting, overlooking DTD
Definitely Congress Park. The walk to DD is nice and there's a pool right there. We frequently eat at DD for a quick meal as well rather than going to the main section of the hotel.
My suggestion would be for the Grandstand area. Nice golf course views, great quiet pool with bar and refill station, first on and off for buses and about a 5-7 minute walk to carriage house or main pool. We walk to DTD from there with our girls and they do fine. It does take about 20 min but we only go to DTD once or twice during our stay.
