saratoga springs, tell me I'll like it

We love the place so much that we are staying there again for our honeymoon. VWL used to be my favourite. We visited SSR in December, and we were so desperate to switch that we actually called each day from the cruiseline to see if there were cancellations at the other resorts. I'm so glad we didn't. SSR is beautiful and tranquil, and it is so convenient to downtown disney - you can even walk there.

You have to stay there to appreciate SSR. I must admit, when we drove up, I didn't like it one bit, but once we got settled in, and soaked up the atmosphere we loved it.

We have stayed at OKW and like that a lot also, but we prefer SSR because it has more amenities which we enjoy, including a world class spa.

I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Jen,

We also love OKW. Our January stay at SSR was great fun and we will return there in the future.

We still drove over to OKW for a couple of dinners at Olivia's. We did eat at SSR. It is walk up eatery with a limited but sufficient menu.

It is walkable. In fact I would rise early and walk over the back way to DD (by Cirque). I would walk through DD and then back to SSR at the other end. The landscaping is not as mature as OKW, but that will improve with time. The lake is also nice to walk around and over - especially early or late.

They offer a horse and buggy ride at the resort. I have heard many good things about it, but have not done it. I enjoy cross country riding better.

Our home is WLV. We stayed in a two BR last year and at SSR we were in a 2 BR. The WLV 2 BR was much larger. We loved SSR but I'd stay at WLV for the extra room. We did tour the Grand Villa at SSR and it was really primo. Oh we stayed at the Spring Complex and it was great right across the road from the pool & Artist Palette Thers 3 Bldgs and we were in the center one.:cool1: :Pinkbounc

Not according to Disney. The published room sizes are:

VWL 2B: 1080 sq ft
SSR 2B: 1075 sq ft

The floorplans are virtually identical. What is it about VWL that makes you think the room is larger?

We are staying at SSR first time in October.

I have a map and would like unput from this board -
what buildings to request and why.

Thanks.

SSR is my home and just stayed there for my first ever DVC trip in August. Glad my first was at SSR. I LOVE THIS RESORT.....Disney has really captured the "resort" feel of Upstate NY. Pool is sooo nice and relaxing and access to DTD could not be better. Was given a beautiful DTD view in the Congress Park section and did not even request it. Nothing like sitting on the balcony watching the boats and ducks go by in the morning while sipping your coffee. Great start to your day.

Rooms are lovely and not worn in any way. Artist Palette is neat and the food good especially the Beef and Blue sandwich....Yummm!

Going to stay next January at BWV but only because that is a kind of filling a fantasy of mine to stay on a "real" Boardwalk.....

But next trip you bet I am returning home to SSR.

I just didn't feel like I was on vacation. We are from New England and I grew up 15 mins. from the real Saratoga Springs in upstate NY so to me, the look of the resort just didn't give me that "I'm on vacation" feeling. I guess it's all in the perspective of what you're looking for.

We live about 2.4 hours from Saratoga Springs, NY. After walking through SSR I got the same feeling as HGD24 that I'm not on vacation. We are going to stay at SSR in October. I'm hoping that the ol' Disney Magic comes through for me and that this resort stay will be as great as all the others :thumbsup2

I have to admit...I have the same apprehension about SSR as the OP. We own at VWL and have stayed at every DVC property in WDW, except SSR. I'm just not as excited about staying there as other resorts.

We are staying there beginning Sept 29 for 4 nights, so I'll let you know how it goes!

I guess you and I cancel each other out :rotfl2: My parents picked VWL for January and I wish they would have chosen SSR! I own at all three but bought VWL specifically for Christmas. I guess that is what makes DVC so cool - there is something for everyone!

Okay so here's the rundown. SS 2bdr Jan 7-14
Case. ME(23), BF(25), BF mom(50?), BF sister (11), BF brother (23), brother's GF (23)

First trip for Bf brother and GF

Anyway, I have always stayed at OKW, love it. But it wasn't available only SS. I just need to know that I will like it. I hear mixed things too big, food sucks, stuff like that.

I guess you could say I am a OKW brat, I've been staying there since I was 8!

I requested a Downtown Disney View, but are there certain sections of the resort I should request.

I just need some reassuarnce. I'm sure it will be fine. I'm just one of those people who stress over stupid things.

Any tips, info, advice would be great.
Thanks
jen

Request Congress Park for your view.. whether you get it or not you will love it there, so you can stop stressing. DD/ws are whithin walking distance, transportation is good to all the parks. It's my home and favorite resort so I'm just a wee bit biased.

:offtopic:
I type and spell as bad as any body, but after spending time on these boards and seeing the direction some of the threads take, I must say that I love this WORD "unput" :lmao: :lmao:

The strange thing to me is that my impression is that the rooms are smaller at VWL. We usually just stay in studios as it is just the two of us but the studio at VWL felt smaller. I think they are similar size but couldn't find it online. I think it is due to the darker decor at VWL. ???
