Hi

Has anyone been to Sarasota and stayed at a hotel on the Beach? Any recommendation on nice hotels not too expensive. I understand that theri are different islands around Sarasota. Which is the best one? Any suggestions on attractions around the area would be much appresciated.
Thanks

I'm going to leave this on this forum in hopes you'll get some responses. However, you may want to post on the Community Board too. There are a lot more people that post there and since your question isn't Disney/Orlando specific they should leave it on that board.

You're talking about one of my favorite places. Yes, there are several keys around Sarasota - and the best one IMHO is Siesta Key. The sand is so white and fine and BEAUTIFUL. There is a neat village area. There aren't many hotels in the area, at least across from the gulf or gulf-front. Most places are condo/house rentals. But, if you're staying for a short time I would suggest the Best Western Siesta Key. It's clean enough, and right across from the best beach area and within the village area. We've stayed there twice and loved it. It's small, but clean and very inexpensive.

Have fun - this is a wonderful place, no matter which key you choose.

I vote for Siesta.

(approx) North to south barrrier islands as I recall:

Anna Maria - neat little town
Bradenton Beach - ok
Lido Key - nice St. Armands
Siesta Key - possibly worlds finest beach, amazing!

another vote for SK. it's the only one in the sarasota area we go to. it's a perfect beach and village.

We had a difficult time finding a place to stay in Siesta Key. There aren't really a lot of places on the beach that are regular hotels. It was hard to find out what you were really getting. I couldn't get personal reviews, etc.

If you'll be there a week, there are a lot of high rise condos on Siesta key that look nice. There are tons on VRBO. I wish I could remember the ones I liked.

We found the whole experience of trying to find somewhere to stay very frustrating! My SIL & BIL live in Sarasota, and they weren't much help either. It think that's because they just go to the public beach on siesta key, which is great, and free, with free parking.

This year we are booked in an RV park, gulf beach campground, with our pop up.

Good luck with your search! Siesta Key is very nice. If your budget is large, check out Longboat Key, it is also beautiful.
