I guess my point is - know your audience. This is a Disney board, I would say at least 60% of the posters are women (that might even be too low). If you were posting on an ESPN or college football board, that might be different.

I know you don't get why people might be offended - but you dont have to get it. They are. It's not right, wrong, or dumb. People feel the way they feel.

First, thank you for a logical and well thought out post. Second, I'm really lost as to why anyone's choice of humor would be hot-button. I have no idea how anyone would find a show like The Middle funny but if someone wants to post on a thread that they think it is the funniest thing ever I'm not going to attack them for it. I don't want to be told to shut up because I don't adhere to the popular POV (not that you are doing that but some do here).

I don't like anyone, not here or anywhere, trying to be the humor police or word police (ban the whatever-word) and when people try to do those things I'm going to speak up against them. You can disagree with me logically like you did which is fine. I have no problem with opposing views and have never tried to sway anyone. I see no reason to take a minor thing like humor and use it as a reason to attack anyone personally as some have.

Exactly, which is why I just referenced the material in a thread about a comic who tells jokes about that material as opposed to give examples of the jokes. No one will convince me that anything should be off limits for comics.

I do however notice many of your posts swim against the tide in regards to empathy or concern for others. I value freedom & individuality strongly. I think for myself & require my kids to do the same. I value living in a society that cares for family, friends and neighbors. I will & do watch & stick my nose in if I see strange activity around a neighbor's home. I'm fortunate mine will do the same for me.

Rape & miscarriage are not laughing matters, period. Cancer patients & others w/ serious illness laugh about it w/ gallows humor. They're entitled. I'm not until I walk in those shoes. You generally post as if you are above everything & therefore make wiser choices & whatever the issue is cannot touch you or will be irrelevant to you because it simply doesn't matter to you.

Life doesn't work that way. We all face struggles, some of our own making, some the fickle finger of fate. Empathy & consideration for others does not equal surrendering any liberty. I believe it empowers us & adds good energy into the society we live in. I choose to live in the positive & encourage it to grow. You're free to make your choices & spread whatever energy you want to surround yourself with.

To get off the FD bashing and back to the original topic...I personally think SS is hysterical...nothing is funnier than the videos she did on Jimmy Kimmel where she was dumping him for Matt Damon. Sure she not appropriate for everyone, no comic is...if you find her offensive change the channel.

I don't agree with all of this (like any link between empathy and humor) but I appreciate a post with an opposing POV that actually addresses the question as opposed to just attacks someone who laughs at comics you don't find funny.

I think some people have that filter that tells them..think what you want to think, but some things you just don't say out loud (or in this case, you just don't post it on a discussion board).

The Middle and Modern Family our tow of our family's favorites. And I can see how jokes can be made about horrible events, like kidding about a prisoner dropping the soap in the shower.
