DH, DS and I had to attend at town CHristmas luncheon today. DH was up and about networking, while I tried to feed DS with one hand and myself with the other (gee aren't I talented!
). As we were sitting there eating lunch, a little girl a few seats down from us (who looked to be 5-6ish) asked her mother how reindeer can fly if there's no snow. Mom looked totally confused. So I scooted down, DS in hand, to tell her the same story I was told as a kid when I asked that question.
When there's no snow on the ground, Reindeer cannot fly. Snow is part of their magic and without it, they just don't go. SO..in parts of the US where there is no snow (like Texas, Arizona, etc), Santa has a team of special magic donkeys to pull his sleigh. In other parts of the world, where they celebrate Christmas but there is also no snow (like Africa) he has a special team of animals that are native to that part of the world (like camels, llamas, etc) to help pull his sleigh.
The little girl looked at me as if I were totally nuts, but she seemed to kind of accept that answer and Mom looked SO grateful that somebody had something to answer that very hard question with.
