Nout sure if this is the right forum but we are considering going to the pier during our trip. How long of a trip is it from DL? Also what would be the best transportation? Taxi?

Disneyland to Santa Monica Pier is about an hour drive each way. That would probably be a pretty expensive taxi ride. The bus would take at least 3 hours with lots of transfers, I would either rent a car or look into some sort of private shuttle or towncar service. Maybe there is a tour that goes that way.

If you have your own car it could take an hour or more to drive from DLR to SM. I always found traffic in SM to be bad (my doctor's office is in SM) not to mention the parking is bad around the pier. The most economical and best way would be to rent a car. If you do decide to visit SM you might want to check out 3rd Street Promenade which is really close to the pier and Venice Beach as well.

Thanks for the info. This will definitely have to wait until another visit when we have more time.

Is there parking around the 3rd street promenade?

Yes, they are numerous parking structures around both sides of the 3rd street promenade. I used to park at the Santa Monica Mall for free and walk across the street to 3rd street promenade. It's been a while since I've done this so I'm not sure if the mall stops people from doing any longer. It's been a few years since I've parked in the mall and walk across the street only because I'm familiar where the shops are on 3rd street so if I park in the surrounding structures I can get to my store pretty fast and sometimes not even have to pay for parking (they offer free parking for the first half hour or hour).
