Santa Fe, New Mexico

DH and I and our two DDs, who use power wheelchairs, are planning a trip west, and one of the places we'd like to go is Santa Fe, New Mexico. I'm looking for a hotel there with a wheelchair accessible room that will sleep at least four and has a roll-in shower. Can anyone who has stayed in Santa Fe recommend a hotel? Also, I would love to hear about the accessibility of the city and its attractions and restaurants.

I'm not sure about an accessible hotel, as we generally stay in Albuquerque and not in Santa Fe and my DS is not in a wheelchair.

However, you will love love love SF!!! In Old Town, which is a must visit, everything is very accessible.

You must visit the Laredo Chapel, which is on the outskirts of Old Town, which has the oldest staircase in existence. It's gorgeous. Any of the old Mexican restaurants located in Old Town are a must-eat! However, I would recommend the Blue Corn Tortilla Factory.

Santa Fe Children's Museum is absolutely wonderful as well!

Thanks, Goofylover! We've never been to Santa Fe, so I love all the suggestions. We are planning to go in May.

I use a mobility scooter and we stayed here last Oct. It is 1/2 block from the Palace of the Governors. It is small and older but has a good location and I was able to get my scooter to the room and be comfortable. The Hotel Fonda is pricey but right in the middle of the square. They have a wonderful restaurant. I was able to use my scooter on the sidewalks with very little difficulty.

Have fun, NM is our favorite place. My sis lives near Albuquerque.

Thanks, RNMOM. The Hotel Fonda looks beautiful. I'm going to put it on my list of places to call to ask specifics about accessibility. I'm so glad to hear you didn't have any problems with sidewalks. I've heard such good things about Santa Fe. I can't wait to check it out.

I'm spoiled by WDW; we've been there enough times that I have a very good idea of what accessibility is like throughout the resort. Planning a trip to multiple places we've never been is proving to be a whole lot trickier.
