Sanity Check/Opinions- Aulani July trip with Aug UY points

We are on the fence about an upcoming Aulani trip in early July whether to hold it or cut our loses at this point. We have a reservation for a week in a 2 bedroom, which is significant points for us as well as being a bucket list type of trip. We have an Aug UY and are using about 50% points from 2019 and 50% borrowed from 2020.
The only sure thing right now is that if we cancel we'd still have time to bank the 2019 points into 2020 (please correct me if I'm wrong on this).
If we cancel now, we would essentially lose the 2020 points as they would remain in 2019, unless we could get a WDW reservation between now and Aug 1.
If we hold onto the reservation and Aulani remains closed it is possible we'd get our 2020 points returned to 2020 but would most likely lose the 2019 points... but all this is subject to change and the whim of Disney.
If we hold onto the reservation and Aulani opens, it would be a question if we feel comfortable traveling by then.
We've got about a week to ponder this, before the banking window closes, then it would be out of our hands.
Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks!

Disney have not consistently been returning 2020 UY points that were borrowed.

I would cancel and bank what you can.

First I would call DVC and see if they'd make any kind of one-time exception it seems they have given in the past. With the current situation I wouldn't hold my breath... but it doesn't cost you anything to ask.

Is it traveling in general or traveling to Hawaii due to their 14 day quarantine? If Hawaii I would take a look at Vero beach. They have good availability in studios for all of June and most of July for almost 2 weeks at a time. Worst case if you decide to cancel and can't do anything with your borrowed points is maybe grab some Vero dates and rent that out as a reservation. If open, I think people that are worried about Coronavirus might be more likely to vacation at a stand alone resort like VB versus the massive complex that WDW is.

Here's hoping things get better quick and you get to go to Aulani!

It is very tricky situation because we just don’t know what exceptions to the rules will continue to happen. And, at some point, they will have to stop.

So, if you are still in your banking window, you know for sure canceling allows you to bank those points. They are holding the line on those rules right now given the sheer magnitude of points that could flood the system as this goes on.

Since your trip is in July, my gut tells me that by then, they will be no longer putting borrowed points back. So, even waiting and canceling 31 days out, you’d stand to lose both.

Id probably cancel and bank what you can And then try to rebook a small trip in July to WDW.

I would call dvc and ask their opinion. Also, July is a long way off! You are about 3 and a half months away. There is a lot of doom and gloom in the media right now, but it will all turn around very quickly when it does.
