We are planning a week at Sanibel island to start our three week trip this summer . Can any of you folks give me you experiences on thoughts on the island. Ive done a fair bit of web surfing but any inside info would be great. We stayed on the north tip of Anna Maria island in 05 and loved the wild quiet beaches and the wildlife. Any help or opinions would be cool probably thinking about cottage condo so we do some meals ourselves as the reast of the trip is POP (free dining ) and Universal! :sunny:

We love Sanibel. Our family lives in Ft. Myers and their inlaws live on the island. I just love it!!

There is a place to eat there called Flamingo's and it is yummy for wings.

We like Periwinkle Place shoppes.

Just have a great time!!

I live near Sanibel. I've been there a few times. I've only been to the (very limited) public beaches though, so I don't know much about the private beaches. The public ones aren't anything to write home about. If you like the gulf, remember there are no waves, then I think Sanibel is nice. You can rent bikes at several places on the Island and ride around. It's very pretty. However, as a southwest Florida native, I would advise against this area if your trip is too late in the summer. We have been unable to go to the beach for MONTHS because of the redtide. We went one day because I had checked online and it said that redtide was low. Well, the water was red, and there were dead fish everywhere, on the land and floating in the water. Also even though none of us have any type of breathing problems, we had problems that day because of the redtide. So check into that too. HTH
