We originally booked 11:30am in hopes of snagging a seat by the window.... we were planning dinner in disney springs, but no restaurants there interest me and I can't get a homecomin ressie....yet.

We'd be rope dropping FOP (with our 4 year old) so arriving at 7:30am, lion king, then leaving for Sanaa, then back by 2:30 for Navi FP, then safari and some trails... I can't do backwards coasters so no everest... and we are scheduled to end the day at the boneyard, while I might check out dinosaur... Then we planned to grab quick service at DS if couldn't get a homecomin adr....

But now I am wondering if I should just eat dinner at Sanaa, spend more hours in AK meandering and hit up their QS for lunch...though no much seems that appealing there either.

IS the Sanaa view that incredible? or just cool you still can see animals while you eat?

I imagine being in AK would still allow us to see many more animals.

There are definitely more animal to be had in AK (lumping in the safari) than at the lodge. Seeing the animals at AKL and while dining at Sanaa is definitely cool, but the best thing about Sanna is the FOOD. Unquestionably its the best non-signature restaurant on property. Whether you do dinner or lunch is up to you, but it should not be missed.

If you end up staying at AK, we really like Flame Tree. Yummy bbq and onion rings. And keep looking for Homecoming. I was able to snag a reservation for next week a few days ago, so things definitely open up.

oh hey kastoney! totally recognized your photo as I lurked your dining report! loved it!

yeah the sanaa lunch was definitely a "there's alota fuss about this place....we should work it in!" about the food... and we're trying to not miss out on animals by booking for lunchtime since we would have to leave the park...

sanaa or homecomin if you had to choose?

Couple of things to consider -- when is your trip? The animals come off the savanannah (functionally) at dark. If you have a winter trip, the 5:10 will be a bust. If you are going DST/light hours, I would recommend dinner and not break your day into pieces. Kidani is about 10-15 min (I think) from the park so you're going back and forth during primer park hours.
I second Flametree as well as recommend Yak and Yeti.

December, so dark.... which was a well, we are seeing animals in park if we change....

hmmm

Personally, I would spend the day at AK and then do the Sanaa dinner. Yes, Sanaa during the day is neat when the animals walk by, but you'll be doing the safari and the trails, so will see the animals there. I actually think AK has some of the better QS - Flametree, Satul'i, etc.

I think going to AK at 7:30 am, leaving for lunch, going back to AK and then going to DS is a lot for one day especially with a 4 year old in tow.

we are staying at Disney springs, so we are heading there anyway at days end for qs dinner around 5pm n route to hotel....if that changes anything for you.

But noted
...

I don't mean to hijack this thread but are you saying that if you lunch at Sanna you won't see the animals because they are the same animals out in the Savannah during the Safari ride?

The animals on the savanna visible from Kidani are herbivores -- giraffes, funky horned deer/antelope, etc. They are "on" from the early am to the evening. Disney doesn't illuminate the savanna, so when it's dark, the animals, if they're still out are hard to see. Wanted the OP to consider visibility.

The animals at Kidani (where Sanaa is located) and the animals on the savanna for the safari ride in AK are not the same animals.

My apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread and thank you to everyone for their replies! This thread confirms that I made a good decision in switching my ressies from dinner to lunch. We are going in January so dusk will come much too early in the day.

Eat dinner at Sanaa and spend the day in the park.... I don't like going back and forth like that..... time goes real fast when your at the park when you leave expect to and a hour onto your schedule getting to a from hotels to parks
