We will be in San Diego for a few days before heading to DL. We would like to do a whale watch.

Does anyone have any experience with Pacific Nature Tours or San Diego Whale Watch?

Any other recommendations would be welcome as well.

What month are you traveling? We went whale watching with Pacific Nature Tours in January 2013 and had a very good experience. Saw many dolphins and several whales. Do take motion sickness meds, though. We spend a lot of time on the water here at home and have never had a problem, but the water was pretty rough and we were glad we followed the crew's advice.

We will be there in August. What motion sickness meds did you use?

Ventura whale watch is reporting amazing sightings as we speak. Not sure about San Diego.

I haven't been at San Diego but I have Dana Wharf. It's easy to get to as you're almost driving past it. The day you are travelling to Anaheim you could whale watching at Danawharf.com
If it's a Tuesday it may be half price. We've been 3 times with them and saw whales and dolphins.
There's also one at Newport Beach, I think Davey's something. If you look on Californiafunspots.com I believe there is a good coupon.

Ha! I sure do have experience - I'm their naturalist :) We've had really good luck with blue whales, fin whales, and dolphins (in the thousands) lately!

The PP is correct about their motion sickness recommendation though. Ideally take some the night before and then take another dose an hour before the trip. We do sell it on the boat in case you forget, but the sooner, the better. We recommend bonine or a non-drowsy dramamine.

PNT and SDWW are owned by the same people, so I can work for either boat. PNT is a more personalized experience and includes your lunch, but it is a longer trip (4.5 hours vs. 3 hours). That's good for some, not good for those that get sick haha!

Let me know if you have other questions. You can usually get a groupon for 50% if you search.

We did a Pacific Nature Tours trip with a Groupon last year and it was great! It was the morning after a big storm so the water was very choppy and over half our boat was in the back 'chumming the water', but we stayed right in front on the edge and were fine. I think I had taken so Bonine the night before. We saw tons of dolphins and a few blue whales.

Thanks for all this great info. I just purchased a groupon for the SDWW (and I had a 15% coupon plus $10 off :yay:). I think 3 hours will be enough for me ... I'm the one in the family that gets motion sick.

It sounds really fun and my 10 year old is going to LOVE it!

Awesome! I suggest you follow us on FB to see what we've been seeing recently. I always post pictures after each trip :)

Yes, August is a very good month for blue whales as well as dolphins!
