I have been scouring the Internet for days and still can't figure out a hotel for our California stay. We are doing 3 nights in November 9-12 in San Diego before our disney trip. Can you help? Looking to spend no more than 250 a night, family friendly with a heated pool but QUIET. I am the lightest sleeper the world has ever known.....thanks! Wanted to stay at the hotel del Coronado as a dream of mine, but alas it is way too expensive.

Do you have a vehicle? I ask because our last trip down our family of four stayed just north at the Marriott in Del Mar. Its about a 20 minute car ride to Balboa Park, 25 or so to downtown Gaslamp area. Not sure what the going rate is now but we were under $200 per night.

Yes we will...were the rooms really quiet? Or could you hear folks in the next room?

No it was very quiet during our stay and that was with a convention/workshop there. We would leave early AM and typically not return until the evening. It was a quick trip over to the beach cities along the coast if going into San Diego wasn't the plan for the day.

Take a look at Glorietta Bay Inn. Just across the street from the Del Coronado. Heated pool and spa. Free continental breakfast with lots of choices.

What activities will you be doing in San Diego? I can offer you a few recommendations, but it really depends on what areas you'll be in because it's sort of a big area.

If you'll be going to Legoland, check out the Hyatt House Carlsbad. It's a bit of a drive to San Diego (40 minutes without traffic, 60 with), but it's very quiet and you get a full size refrigerator. They have a pool, but not sure if it's heated.

If you'll be at Sea World, The Dana is nice. Multiple pool areas, which I believe are heated, and a beautiful area to walk right next to the harbor. It can get pricey, but if you look for deals, you can get it for cheap.

We have also stayed at the Days Inn on Hotel Circle, which is close to a few things. It's inexpensive if you're on a budget and for a Days Inn, pretty nice. Surprisingly quiet, too. They have a pool and a free breakfast (unless that's changed since we stayed there). Not sure if the pool his heated.

We are going to the zoo, old town, Coronado and la jolla. Thought we would stay at legoland hotel Saturday night and hit legoland Sunday on the way to disney.

Know anything about the best western on shelter island?
I stayed there once, but it's been a while. Shelter Island is one of the more quiet areas of the city. The hotel is comfortable and mostly quiet from what I remember. The one downside, if I'm remembering it correctly, is that the bathroom area is sort of small. Not sure if that really matters to you or not, but we are a family of 5, so we felt we needed a bit more space.

The Residence In on Harbor Dr is nice. The rooms are quiet and the pool is heated. You will be minutes from the zoo.

If you are willing to take a slight risk Hotwire lists a 4* resort on Coronado for $139 for your dates. Has a 90% customer approval and children's activities. This is almost certainly the Lowes Coronado Resort. Rack rate is $209-$300 depending on room choice.

Thanks! I looked a Loews on the map and it seems out of the way for what we wanted to see, but for a beach vacation it looked amazing!

If you have a car, though, does it totally matter? Coronado is part of your plans, the zoo and old town are just a short drive. La Jolla is a bit of a hike no matter where you stay.
