Hello. I am having a hard time finding a communion dress for my daughter here in MD. We will be in San Antonio for spring break though. Does anyone have any ideas on where we might find a dress? Not looking to spend a fortune. We will be staying on the northwest side, La Cantera area. Any advice is appreciated. I figure San Antonio probably has a big Catholic population.

I'm not in San Antonio, but in MD. I don't know what part of the state you're in , but the Kid to Kid (used clothes shop) in Cockeyville has had some darling ones on their rack the last couple weeks...only a couple though, so I would call ahead for what sizes they have. I would also call other Kid to Kid stores and any consignment shops in your area. Pied Piper in Cross Keys (Baltimore always has a good selection ( they are very pricey though, but you migh luck out on a discontinued one or something).

Did you try JCPenney? or Sears on line?

I hope this is helpful. I'm in WI and last weekend picked up DDs dress at Burlington Coat Factory. I did a quick search and it looks like there are a couple of stores in the San Antonio area. (didn't look for MD) Dresses were between $40-$50. Not cheap, but reasonable for communion dresses. My DD also wears an 8, and there weren't as many as I'd like, but still plenty to choose from. Our church allows sleeveless dresses and there were mostly those styles. However, I know some churches are more conservative. Burlington also had several styles of white sweaters in case shoulders need to be covered. Good luck!!

What about Macy's? They have some that are around $70 online. Don't know if they have them in the stores. They definitley have 8's and 10's.

Not sure if they have them in your area but here in Massachusetts Sears carries a large selection of Communion dresses.

I second Burlington Coat Factory...it was five years ago, but I got my daughters dress there and it was beautiful, along with the headpiece!

Also would recommend Burlington Coat Factory -- just got my DD's communion dress 2 weeks ago. They had a ton to choose from.

Macy's and Sears had nothing. JCP literally had 1 dress total! It was size 8 so I picked it up! Hope she likes it and it fits. If not, i will check Burlington if we even have them around here, need to look.

Now where can I find Communion vail? Sigh...

Burlington has veils, too. I saw some at the local catholic store as well. We are debating on a veil. According to our religious ed coordinator, they are losing their popularity around here in favor of fancy headbands or clips in updo's. I am glad you found something and hope it works out! It's such a special time :)

I also got my daughters dress last year at Burlington coat factory and they had a lot of the same dresses I had seen online for about 15.00-20.00 cheaper. She needed a size 10 and we made her try on about 10 different styles. We did go down to the one in gurnee, IL because it is does have a larger selection then the one in our town in Wisconsin, but if there is one in San Antonio I would think it would be a good size store.

Apparently there is a shop called Good As New Boutique that consigns special occasion dresses for both adults and kids, including communion and quince dresses.

As Catholic as San Antonio is, there are bound to be lots of communion dresses in shops all over the place. I doubt they will be scarce.

I ordered by daughter's from The Children's Place last year. With coupons, I think it was about $30 or $40! It was nice and did the job. Good luck and congrats!

I didn't like the veils that were available when my DD's were this age (they are college age now). I don't sew much but I can handle a glue gun and I made both of their veils myself. I started with a pretty decorated comb/headband from Michael's craft store. Then I gathered the tulle and glued it to the base. This can be customized to suit the child. One of mine wanted white satin ribbons trailing down and the other wanted a simpler style with pretty pearl accents. It was super easy, honestly! You can find the decorated comb/hairbands in the bridal section of the craft stores or even Wal-mart.

I live here in San Antonio I'm not sure about the north since theres nothing but fancy pants stuff over there lol. but here on the south side there a ton of little stores that just sell dresses for communion off of sw military dr.

We got DD 1 a first communion dress at Lord and Taylor for a reasonable price (under $200) DD 2 got hers from the Talbot's clearance store for $25. lemon twist in Bethesda always has them, too.
