We ate there on Friday for dinner. The rice they gave us was horrible, tasted like rice with tomato soup. The fish dinner was small, with 1/2 cup white rice. If I wasn't on the DDP, it wouldn't have been worth $10. We had to wait forever to get seated even though the restaurant just opened for dinner, waited forever for our server to come over to ask us about our drinks, another long wait for the drinks to be brought to us, a long wait for the nasty food, and another long wait for dessert and our receipts to be rung up. We saw the manager on the way out, told him about our food and the service. He said we should have told him before it was paid.
He offered us to come back the next day for free(for the same nasty food and service?), maragaritas(we don't drink alcohol), or desserts for the kids to take and eat in the park-guess what that was-churros with hot chocolate-not sauce but hot chocolate, on a 95 degree day. We took the dessert not knowing what it was, and the kids ate the churros without the sauce. It was 2 small churro sticks per child.
Now I can see how people hate this restaurant.
Can the new one be any worse?
I eat at Mexican restaurants and order a variety of foods, mild and spicy. Nothing ever came close to this poor excuse for food.

Lots of posters have had the same experience.

We actually had one of the best meals of our trip here. We were seated within 5 minutes of checking in, our server was very attentive, and the food was AMAZING. We even tried getting in once more before our trip was over - with no luck. The last time we ate here which was several years ago our experience was much similar to your current one - I was very scared about trying it again but was very pleasantly surprised. I was hoping they were on the up and up so am sad to hear that you had such a bad experience - sorry.

We also had one of the best meal of our trip last week. I did not have rice, so can't comment on that. Of course, we were there for lunch, not dinner. Maybe this makes a difference?

I had lunch there last month and enjoyed it thoroughly.

I also commend the manager at the time for standing his ground when a large party demanded that I be moved so they could have my table. He flatly refused.

I'm glad to hear that people that had lunch there enjoyed it, because we have an ADR for lunch there on Oct. 13. I hope it's good. I've read both good and bad reviews and even cancelled eating here last year because of them. This year I decided we were eating there no matter what so we'll see.

We had great food / service, and our experience was enjoyable. We will return on future trips.

We will also be in Disney in October! DH and I enjoy Mexican and Spanish foods and I'm willing to take the chance on the food and service to eat here. Thanks to all who have posted! Honestly though, I want to eat here for the atmosphere. I remember as a kid being on the ride through Mexico and thinking it was so neat that people were eating inside at twilight. :goodvibes

We had horrible food and service plus waited 2 hrs past our ADR in Sept 2008 I was very dissapointed b/c the food use to be outstanding.
I cant wait till the Hacienda opens to try it

To OP, I'm sorry you had a not-outstanding experience-that's a bummer.

DH and I really enjoy SAI. I will say we only go here when it is the 2 of us-we both really enjoy mexican food and our 3 dudes are not so crazy about it. We really enjoy the atmosphere of the experience. We typically order the steak soft tacos-I don't know what the real name of these are. I will agree that at times the service is rather slow.

Hopefully you had other dining experiences that made up for this one!:)

I don't care how good the food or atmosphere is -- I don't wait more than 20 minutes to be seated.

After 2 hours, I don't see how ANYTHING they served would meet my expectations.

I guess this is one of those restaurants where it is either very good or very bad! Now, we went during a less crowded time and we LOVED it. We got seated quickly and enjoyed the chips and salsa tremendously. Had good drinks, and our entree was good too. Our waiter was attentive and funny. Now the restaurant was crowded but the dim atmosphere seemed to keep people talking at a lower level. One of our favorite places ever and we will be going back.

Sorry the OP didn't have a nice time. I don't think I would have good memories of it either if the food was not tasty. But I also feel the manager made an effort to take care of the problem as best he could after the fact.

We have been eating there for many years. I have to agree that the food has gone down hill. Years ago we really enjoyed it. I feel that all that is left is the atmosphere. Sorry.......
