San Angel Review - Surprisingly Good

This was the only restaurant my DD17 requested and I must admit that I was a little concerned because of all the bad press it gets on these boards. Well I have to say that I am so glad we ignored all the negative reviews and tried this restaurant.

Our food was very good. The menu was slightly different from the ones shown on the websites, but we all ordered items that are currently listed.
My DD17 ordered the Plato Mexicano and enjoyed it very much - the beef flauta was her favorite. I had the Pollo a las Rajas and loved it - very mild and flavorful. My DH and DS12 both ordered the Mole Poblano. Neither are adventurous eaters, but both were happy with their choice. This dish had the most heat, but was still not too spicy. It was definitely more traditional mexican food and everything came out tasty and fresh.

The atmosphere is beautiful. It is dark, but that is part of the charm of eating "outdoors" in the evening. Our service couldn't have been better. Our waitress was very sweet and helped us to make our meal choices since this was our first visit.

I definitely would recommend this restaurant and would be happy to answer any questions.

Good to hear. We leave on Aug 30 and are planning to eat at San Angel.

Thanks for your review. We will be dining at San Angel Inn for the first time next month.

Thanks for the review, we are trying it in Oct for lunch

I have always loved San Angel so I am happy to hear a good review. We have ADrs there for our honeymoon and I cant wait I have already decided to get the Pollo Rojas too! I cant wait! How was the new El Rio Del Tempo ride?

how were desserts? I'll admit, I have a sweet tooth, and the desserts that I have seen listed in the menus online just don't appeal! (not a fan of flan!)

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. You are going to love the Pollo a las Rajas! I don't know about the ride...no one wanted to try it. Enjoy your trip.

Sorry but we were just too full for desert. We did look at the dessert menu, but honestly it didn't appeal to my family either (although most of it looked pretty "sweet" to me). They prefer the french bakery to satisfy their need for sweets.

I am glad you were happy at San Angel Inn. My family LOVES it and it is a must do according to the kids DD 12 and DS 9. I think many people are so used to "americanized" mexican food that they are surprised by the food. The atmosphere definitely can not be beat either. We are dining there in a couple of weeks and can't wait!

It's so nice to hear a good review for San Angel Inn!

This restaurant is a favorite of ours and a Disney tradition - we go every trip. We love it so much that when we were in Mexico City about 10 years ago, we actually went and ate at the REAL San Angel Inn - Disney's not too far off from the original!!

It is true that the fare is more traditional and I think that is why so many people are disappointed. Having spent a lot of time in Mexico... our family loves it!

we are going next month and I heard from my friend that he goes everytime and the food is fantastic....nice to hear a good review.

I'm glad to hear that you liked it! I just my my ADR for October 26 there. I have never been. I can't wait!! Thanks for the review!! :thumbsup2

we always eat there for one meal..the kids love it and they LOVE the ride. I must admit I am not a huge "Mexican food" fan but this seems more authentic and tastese better that what you get ate places here. We have reservations for our December trip!!

San Angel is a requirement everytiime we go - love the Chicken Mole on the dinner menu - mmmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks for the great review.... we are eating here in September. You just can't beat the atmosphere!

and the MARGARITAS!!! :lovestruc

We ate there for the first time in Dec 2006 and we will be going back. I had a 3 year old and 6 year old at the time and they liked everything. You forget your even in a park when your having your dinner. Love this place.
