What are your opinions on this restaurant? We are not adventurous eaters but enjoy the traditional nachos and tacos. Would we find the selections mainstream or authentic? Also, would you recommend a PS for dinner here in July?

Definitely PS for dinner. It is very popular because of the decor. We have eaten lunch there twice, the food is very good. Portions are quite generous. Some items could easily be split. CHeck out www.allearsnet.com and go to the section on dining. If you scroll through you can find the menus for all of the sit down restaurants in the "world" and the resorts too.

The decor is beautiful but.......the food is awful. My local taco bell is better. I have been 4 times....the last time being June 2004 - I will never go back.

Had no problem taking kids to eat here, and they're surely not adventurous eaters. Can't remember too much about the menu, but would go there again, everything was good, atmosphere alone was worth it

DH and I really enjoyed it. I had the tortilla soup and nachos. He had a chicken dish. DS had chicken strips. We would eat there again. Oh, and the margaritas are yummy and strong! I highly recommend them but I must admit I got a little woozy on El Rio Del Tiempo after polishing mine off

We thought the atmosphere was nice at San Angel. The margaritas are good but they are outside at the Cantina also. Our service wasn't good but wasn't awful either. We all LOVE all kinds of Mexican food and we were disappointed in it. I had tacos al carbon and they were pretty tasteless and was a small portion even for me and I don't eat much at all at one sitting. When my dh and my children don't clean their plates at a Mexican restaurant, that really is saying something's not quite right lol.

We usually go to this place around 3/3:30 and still have the lunch pricing menu. Food here is great. Service use to be awesome, last time I went kindof slow. People next sat down after us and left before us!! tacos al carbon are great(steak( and the dh gets the plato el nacioncal. Enjoy!!

San Angel Inn is more authentic mexican, don't remember from what region. This is not your local taco bell (fake mexican food). We love going in for lunch, getting a table by the water and relaxing. We have tried many of the menu items and everything has always been wonderful.

Queso fundido!

We always try to have this at least once per trip - along with a Margarita. Delicious! And enough to share. Add a platter of chicken nachos & it's a great meal. Not too thrilled with their Sangria though.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Especially if you want taco's and nacho's, save the money, get better food and service at Taco Bell!

:D We love this restaurant! The atmosphere is awesome and the food has always been pleasing. It's one PS that I always get when we plan our WDW trip. :flower1:

I've been twice and must agree. I'm one who seeks out traditional Mexican food. We've eaten in authentic Mexican restaurants all over the country and even IN Mexico, but find San Angel Inn very bland.

If it's tacos, nachos, and margaritas you want, save some time and money and go to the counterservice Cantina. The Mexico pavilion is nice to wonder around in and do the boat ride.

I love the nachos at the counter service place outside of the Mexico pavilion. That was one thing that I ate during my June trip when my morning sickness was raging and I loved them.
I have read mixed reviews about the restaurant inside the pavilion. I would go for lunch and spend less money. That way if the food isn't that good, you won't be paying dinner prices.

Not all Mexican is taco and nachos. I don't think SAI is bad. It is not taco and nachos at dinner. Almost all of the mexican places that you eat at across this country (where mexicans work and run) is only a representation of one type of mexican food. It is mostly American. Or tries to be Texan type Mexican food. Not to mention that almost all the these places use the same food service company that helps them menus and recipies at start up. THat is why they are about the same.

Anyway SAI tries to be a more sophisticated Mexico city upscale type dinning. Though I heard the French chef on a tv show about EPCOT say that all the countries have to tone down there food for the unsophisicated american taste. (just another reason to boycott the fake france too.)

I really think they should cook it the way it is supposed to be, and "educate all of us"

San Angel Inn is very authentic Mexican. Therefore, a lot of people probably will not like it, because it is a very different flavor than most people are used to. If you like Taco Bell, you will PROBABLY not like San Angel Inn. Many of the items are not usual fare in most Mexican restaurants that are familiar. For me, SAI was some of the best food I have ever eaten at Disney. My only complaint is that it is really too dark for my tastes in the restaurant. I like to see what I am eating, especially if it is unfamiliar and uniquely prepared or flavored. My only advice: stay away from Cantina San Angel (counter service). We found the food there to be basically inedible (three separate entrees).

I really enjoyed San Angel Inn on my trip in early December, as much for the atmosohere as for the food. It's just beautiful.

Just a note: you can only get a margarita on the rocks inside, not at the cantina. There are only frozen margaritas at the cantina.

ITA. Ate the combination platter here two weeks ago, it was a lot of food and it was terrific. This from someone who travels to Mexico at least 2 weeks a year and loves the food.

As for the service, it was so, so. At first even my dd said what's up with the waiter he seems cranky, but half way through the meal he warmed up, chalked it up to maybe he had a run in with another customer.

we enjoyed SAI very much, my parents have traveled to Mexico and enjoyed their meal there, but i wouldn't call it truly 'authentic' --- liked it well enough to go back next Sunday for a margarita and ceviche (shrimp appetizer) but going to save some room to try something new later in the evening too!

We enjoyed it for lunch. We had large portions ( we could not finish them) We got the Plato Nacional and the Plato Mexicana.
I thought the Tamale that came with it was good and better than I have gotten at some other places. NOW... I do have to say. I thought it was much better than taco Bell but we were not getting the usual taco Bell fare. Also I know there are people that have had much better Mexican food but we are from Upstate NY so we don't have many Mexican restaurants so that may be why we thought it was quite good.
