Can anyone tell me how his restaurant is? I have heard that they don't let you change anything on the menu-that what you see is what you get? How is the food? Any feedback would be great....Thanks.

We have eaten there a few times and found the food to be decent. Sometimes better than others. I have asked baout substitutions/changes and was told that items are fixed (in some cases premade?) and are unable to be changed. We have found that when it's busy the service can be VERY slow, to the point where you shouldn't drink too fast cause you might not get more for a while. We will be dining there again though as we have found the food to be a good deal and tasty.

it is one of our must eat at each trip restaurants...the food is good, the service is good - but when crowded takes quite a bit of time! Never asked for substitutions so I can't answer that one for you.

We eat there once during each trip. I really like the food there.

An added plus, if you are there when it is blistering hot out. The cool, dim interior is to die for!

I guess I'm in the minority here....I think the food is awful!! I LOVE the atmosphere.

The atmosphere is the best, but honestly I didn't like my food. I have plain tastes. I just wanted a cheese enchilada or something like that. The food's a little on the unusual side for me. My DH, however, loved it.

Had a great meal if you don't mind eating in the dark.

San Angell Inn is one of our favorites! Last two trips we went two times each! I love Mexican food, and thought it was very authentic. Each time had something different. The service was ok. A few times you questioned if the waiter actually comprehended what you said or ordered. They seem distracted. BUt other that that, food is great, Margaritas are great, and atmosphere is wonderful! Try the queso fanditos! They are to die for! (Then visit the gym the next morning!) Enjoy! :thumbsup2

I guess my husband and I are in the minority. We ate there about 10 days ago and thought the food was not up to par, the menu limited and the service was not up to par. It is unlikely we would eat there again.

On the positive side, the "volcano" did make for a lovely backdrop to look at.

Atmosphere is fun, but it is dark.

However, I have never had such bland and mediocre Mexican food in all of my life. We will not be returning.

we always eat in this restaurant !

Once I asked to change something in my daughter's menu : she does not like spicy food and things such as onion so I was decided to explain this to the waitress or I know the situation : my daughter does not eat anything !
The waitress told me she will ask the cooker and ......."it's not sure but I will do my best...." !
After a while she came back with a plate with no onion inside and it was really tasty, very good with a little bit spice only !
I was very happy and I gave a good tip for this !

I guess that depends upon the person and the moment !
When it's crowdy it's very difficult to get what you "specially" want, but if there is time you may "with a kind smile" try to explain what bothers you !

I hope you will be happy to eat in this amazing and very romantic restaurant.

Thanks so much for the responses........the most I'd want to change is no sour cream on top of things.....not much more than that.....Thanks again!!!!!!!

In the past 10 years the food quality here has fallen off the charts. The atmosphere is the only thing now that brings us back each year, also the hope that ownership, or the chef or something had changed to bring the food quality back to where it once was. We keep asking ourselves, does Disney not have any control over the food quality here, or is it an independent restaurant.

A few on this board keep saying that it's not Tex-Mex, it's authentic Mexican. Well quality is quality. We visited a friend who lived in Mexico City on a few occasions and he took us too some fabulous authentic Mexican restaurants. Quality is quality and San Angels has lost it.

We love Mexican restaurants and we've tried this place twice. Both times, I was very disappointed. Both times, I asked for substitutions and was told no also. The service here was AWFUL both times I've eaten here.

The most recent was May 5. It was my best friend's birthday that day and we chose this place because she asked to eat here (I wasn't thrilled, but it was her day, so her choices). I metioned at the time of the reservation, when we checked in, with our hostess and our waiter that it was her birthday and nothing was done or said. Not even a Happy Birthday from the hostess or waiter.

The service was SO slow. We had a reservation at 7pm (did this so we would not miss Illuminations). We were not seated until almost 8pm and we were not done eating until almost 10pm. YIKES ... 3 hours wasted on so-so food and terrible service!

I do agree though the atmosphere is to die for here. IMHO, that's the only thing going for this restaurant!

We have eaten here at least once each trip the past 9 years. IMHO the food quality has IMPROVED over that time. Not the opposite. 9 years ago I thought all WDW food was overpriced and of poor quality. I wrote several times to complain about this after our vacation.

In the past 3 visits we have been happy with the food at San Angel Inn. While not as good as Le Cellier, Chefs de France, etc. we have found it a bit above average for Mexican food (and we eat lots of mexican food).

Atmosphere: 8
Food: 6
Service: 5

It's still one of the kids' favorites and we make it a point to eat here once per visit.

I don't think we will try this as there are sooo many other good restaurants at the world with our dining plan.......we have good mexican food where we live so maybe we will go where we can try diffrent types of foods instead....I think that atmosphere was the most appealing but it does not seem worth it......thanks for all the feedback.

Even if you decide not to eat there at least go inside and ride the Rio del Tiempo. You don't have to dine there to ride the boat and it will give you a quick feel of the atmosphere everyone enjoys. :thumbsup2
