San Angel Inn - Yes or No?

I know this place gets A LOT of mixed reviews. Right now I have an ADR for SAI for a late lunch for DH & I. But I keep reading horrible reviews now. Im reading more bad reviews then good reviews. Before it was half and half. But seems like each yr they are getting worse. So should we take our chances and do SAI or just cancel our ADR?

We ate here in October and it was the surprise of the trip. I almost cancelled our ADR several times based on the bad reviews here, but DH and DS wanted to eat here.
It was very good.
The atmosphere is great, the food was excellent the service was attentive, but not hovering - just right, it was not too dark for us, and it did not seem more crowded than other Disney TS locations.
I was pleasantly surprised and we definitely will return in the future.

You'll get a lot of opinions here. We like it a lot. Great atmosphere. It's one of our must dos every trip. Well almost every trip!

I voted no, but you should try it at least once (so don't cancel, lol); I just didn't care for the food one bit.
The atmosphere is terrific, the service is above average, I was just underwhelmed by the offerings (and the quality) of our meals.

I posted yes keep it, however it comes with a big explanation. Last July my family and I ate at SAI. We had a reservation, but ended up waiting about 30 minutes, which really wasn't too bad because we like the Mexico pavillion so much. I was not very happy with my meal, I did not like it very much, I felt it was cold and just not what I was expecting. I had the filet. The other bad thing was I felt the dessert menu was not soo great. I am, as my Dh teased me, "no fan of flan." So now you may be saying, "why is this crazy person saying to keep my reservation???" Well, the restaurant is beautiful, the wait staff was friendly and nice, my kids loved it and we had a fun time there as a family and I think it is worth a try. Also my DH really liked his food, ate his flan and had an all around great experience. So you never know how any restaurant can be but SAI, IMHO, is worth a try.

My reason for voting to cancel is simple: There are very good Mexican restaurants on almost every corner in every city. Why not try something that you can't get at home? That's why we skip Mexico, China & Italy for meals at Epcot and go to Norway, Germany, France, & England. Ok, Canada too, love Le Cellier and can't get pretzel bread just anywhere

I voted no because I'd personally prefer Teppan Edo, Biergarten or Rose & Crown. Stick to your instinct though, and ENJOY!

i've always wanted to eat there - it just seems so romantic: dark, candle lit, volcano in the background -too bad DH hates the menu....

Yeah for most part the only reason why I wanna eat there is because of the atmosphere. I also booked it for DH because he LOVES mexican food. Regardless what it is or where its from. If he sees it, he wants to try it. I like tacos and thats about it for me for mexican food. Which is why I booked a late lunch so I can get the Tacos Al Carbon. DH will probably get the Plato Mexicano.

My vote is yes....
My family of 5 (ages 11-43) ate there last trip and plan on getting adr's for next trip too.
While its true you can get good Ameri-Mex on almost every corner this is authentic and very different then what you are used to. Perhaps a little too spicy for some we but absolutely loved it. Although there are some plates that are quite pricey (I believe our daughter plate was $28 but it was extremely good). Good luck...
I am trying to find photos of this restraunts food so if anyone has any please let me know, I cant find them online anywhere...
I do highly recommend Biergarten also, even though our town has 3 german restraunts in it as well

If you wanna eat there, you should. Your right it does look romantic. Im not really fond of the menu either but Im going because I know DH will love it. If he has to, just let him get desert or a drink. Go for a lunch that way if he doesnt eat or eat very little, he can always grab a snack somewhere afterwards. Also remember that not everything is on the menus online for every place. They are more like a sample guideline what there is to offer. And the only reason why I know this is because 1 time I saw a menu pic someone posted and the menu online was only like half of the actual menu. He can also order off the childerns menu if need be, unless your on the DDP. Then you must order off the adult menu. I have ordered off the childs menu for other places plenty of times and the waiters never had a problem. They seemed very understanding infact. They probably get asked all the time if the adult can order off a childs menu.

In 2000, I went to Cancun, Mexico for our graduation class trip and spent a week there. So I know what REAL mexican food taste like. Honestly after trying the food in mexico and then eating the food here around home, I much perfer Mexico's food. I dont know why but the mexican food around here isnt all that great. The only mexican food I like here at home is the El Paso Taco Kits you can buy and make them at home.

I think you would enjoy San Angel Inn for both the food and the atmosphere but as many have said you will get different opinions. Since you already know you like authentic mexican food then I think this would be a great choice for you... Good luck making your adr's and have fun on your trip!

I voted no, I'm sorry, I like to be fair, but we've been to WDW many, many times and have eaten at many restaurants and even though the atmosphere is great, it was the worst dining experience of all in WDW. Sorry, jmho.

Well we usually make it a point of going. It's especially nice as a dark romantic place for two. We missed it on our last trip. We had ADR's but had unexpected visitors and changed our ADR's for Chefs de France last minute. sort of a bittersweet thing really. Got to experience Chefs de France for the first time and it WAS delicious ( though service wasn't great, and I don't just mean slow paced ), but I do sort of regret that we didn't get to go.

I voted yes. I've eaten there twice and enjoyed it both times. It's not authentic and I'm sure there are days when the food is not that great, but it's a lovely atmosphere. I'm also a firm believer that everyone should try things themselves and then decide whether or not they like it. I do agree that the dessert choices are lacking a bit (I don't care for flan or bread pudding), but that's a personal preference. Give it a shot!

Oh, and on a sidenote, I highly recommend the ceviche appetizer. It was really good!

Yes, went the last 2 years and liked it, the shrimp and steak como was pretty good and had that both times. I don't know if I would go for the lunch though, looks like less selection. We have it booked this year but found out our plane is now leaving later in the day so we wouldn't get there til after our bookd time of our ADR so have cancel.

I love San Angel Inn! It can be inconsistent, but we've eaten there every single trip. I love the atmosphere and think the food is decent (for Disney food, that is).

There is only one time that I remember service being bad, but the girl was fairly new, seemed shy, and didn't appear to speak English very well. So we gave her a break. Food wasn't good that time either. Everything improved greatly by our next visit, though.

Unfortunately, we're not going to eat there this trip. We were originally going for seven nights, but had to cut it back to five. We decided to try a couple of restaurants that we haven't been to in a while, plus a couple we've never tried. So, San Angel had to go.

We'll definitely go back to San Angel during our big family trip in 2010.

I loved it, i think that you just must know what you are getting yourself into and the menu.
