Do you get chips and salsa for free before your meal here? Do they just bring it to the table? Or, do you have to order it?
If it's free, is it unlimited? Or do you get like one thing of it?

Are the portion sizes big? Could we order two adult meals and share all with eachother? (we are a party of 4- two adults and two girls who are 7 and 5)

We've eatten here a long time ago, but I don't remember. I don't want to seem like a cheap-o...I'm just trying to figure out if it would be like the normal mexican restaurants in our area or what...
Thanks

I just ate there yesterday, I hadn't been there in years either!

They brought us chips and salsa without asking--it was a good-size basket and 2 bowls of salsa. We didn't need more, so don't know if they will bring you more automatically.

Portions were good-sized, but if anyone's a big eater it may not be enough. Perhaps 2 entrees and an appetizer. Also, the food isn't at all like what we Americans think of as Mexican (in other words, not a Don Pablo's or Taco Bell kind of thing, ground beef slathered in cheddar cheese), it is more traditional and authentic and somewhat spicy for people who are sensitive to that sort of thing. No burritos on the menu! But I did see kids around us with things like quesadillas and soft tacos, so if your kids are picky they will certainly be accommodating. But the food is very good, service was good and friendly, and the atmosphere is awesome. (I recommend the Pollo a las Rajas...mmmmm.)

If you want more familiar Mexican food, the Cantina de San Angel outside by the lagoon has things like burritos, tacos, nachos, etc. and it is quite good, with very large portions. But if you're feeling a bit more adventurous and authentic, then go for it!

Has anyone seen anything official for San Angel Inn on the DDP for 2009? It was not listed on the "brochure" on Disney's website. Has anyone on the DDP eaten there this year?

They gave us hot Tostitos chips and cold yummy salsa, all you can eat. The lunch portions did not look huge but once we started eating they did fill us up.

We really enjoyed our meal there and cannot wait to go back

I didn't see it on the DDP either...but we're using it as one of our 3 oop restaurants. My kids always get excited about eating there when we drive through on the boat ride, and hubby and I like real mexican food. So, we knew that it would be good for us. We liked it last time we went, but it's been a while

just my opinions.... I have had mexican food all over mexico, in california and now where i live in Phoenix. I have had a LOT of types of mexican food over the years. I cant call what they serve in the San Angel Inn mexican food. It was barely eddible. I you listen to the podcast they agree with me. It was SO bad, i will NEVER go there again unless a new company takes over the menu. Disney does not do the food at this restaurant, it is outsourced. I really liked the rest of the mexico pavillion, it is such a shame that the food is so bad. Its not even traditional food, at least not like i have had. I would avoid this place if i were you, your money is better spent elsewhere. That is just my opinion, if you do decide to go please report back what you think.

We really like San Angel. I am from Texas and have lived in Colorado much of my life and its not like any Mexican I have had either but to me its very good. I have a friend who lived in Mexico for several years and says its just like what she ate there. I can't remember what region of Mexico she said she lived in but I think it was Mexico City. Which makes sense becaue I believe San Angel is run by a company that has restaurants in Mexico City. In any case, we have alwyas enjoyed it. I find their filet wonderful and I love their tortilla soup and nachos. I have shared before with my kids, the combo plate is especially easy to share. You do get free refills on chips, at least I always have!

Its not for everyone but we really love the place. And I am not discounting the podcast, however, San Angel is just one of many places they appear not to care for.

We really enjoy the atmosphere there, but feel the food is just o.k. I personally thought the portions were a bit on the smaller side compared to other Disney locations.

its all about the atmosphere at SAI. food is ok, but the ambiance is what its about.
