I have an ADR for September here. I love Mexican food, but im not to crazy about the menu here (plus I love the atmosphere) so I want to eat here. My question is :

Can you order off the menu..things like enchiladas, tacos, etc?

Has anyone done this?

IDK, but they do have enchiladas at lunch and different tacos at supper. I bet you could sub chicken or beef for the duck or pork in the tacos???

If you are paying OOP (not on the DP), then it wouldn't be worth it to ask for something different- you'd probably pay an arm and a leg. I can't imagine getting a $35 entree that is just beef tacos. If you are on the DP, it couldn't hurt to ask for a substitution, I suppose.

I haven't ever asked for something not on the menu, but i'm pretty sure the enchiladas and tacos you're thinking of aren't going to be what you get served. My husband and I are from New Mexico, and the mexican food that we know and love is not what we received...its more the traditional meals of mexico that you wont find at restaurants in most cities

American style Taco's and Enchiladas are not considered traditional Mexican foods. You find them in Mexico but rarely at a nice restaurant and mostly in the state of Sonora. San Angel is more traditional Mexican food. They do have tacos at lunch or at the cantina but even then they're not quite the same as what most are used to in the USA. Nonetheless, San Angel is one of our favorates. You might try the cantina for tacos.
