Is this place worth it? We have a 3 yr old. Also, I heard it is under remodeling on here. WE are going april 5

We have always enjoyed this restaurant. It has been our daughters favorite since she was little...she is now mid 20's, and still asks to go there when she visits home.

Get a table by the boats and your child will have something to watch. I just tried if last month for the first time. Food was very good; not your typical tex/mex. Tables were a bit crowded but service was very good.

every place gets mixed reviews. I assume a large number of people must like the place or it would be closed...

that said, the San Angel refurb is scheduled for May so you should be o.k. in April.

Enjoy the little ride - child will love it. Enjoy the atmosphere in the pavillion. Take your time at the pavillion, but by no means eat there. Foods awfull, the service is atrocious, and the chips and saulsa are not quite as good as Taco Bell.

The San Angel Inn has always been one of my favorites. The atmosphere is great. We ate dinner there in December, and we thought the food was the best we had at WDW. You have to know that it is not your typical Tex Mex enchilladas, tacos and burritos. I think a lot of people are disappointed because that is what they expect. You can find the menu at allears.net. We had the tortilla soup and the Mole Poblano. My daughter was 2 yrs 10 months and she really liked it there.

I think this is a great place for kids. With the fiber optic fireworks going off above you, the mayan pyramid glowing in the background, and the boats cruising by, its free entertainment! Don't forget to take the kids on the short boat ride. A lot of people walk right past Mexico, not knowing how cool it is on the inside!

We use to love this restaurant, but after the last two attempts and bad service we gave it up. Shame too, we love the atmosphere.

I agree that the atmosphere is great and our DS5 still talks about that restaurant over a year after our trip, but the food is not good (and I'm not even picky and love Mexican) and the service is very slow. I think we rode that boat ride 10 times before our food came! I actually thought the food at the Mexican Cantina outside (counter service) was better than the actually restaurant food.

This menu has changed over the last two years. We prefer eating at the CS outside. You can get a nice spot by the water and they have a very "kid-friendly" platter you can order. I would say the food is better out there too. :)

I totally agree. Only DH ate his entire meal & that was b/c he was starving. It was a disappointing way to end our last trip.

Exactly....

It was the surprise of our last trip. I almost cancelled our ADR several times because of the bad reviews here. But DH and DS wanted to go, so we kept it.
We all enjoyed our first evening. The atmosphere is great, the food was good, and the service was perfect, attentive but not hovering. We will definitely go back again.
By the way, if you are going in April you need to call ASAP for any TS ADR's that you want. That is a busy time of year and things book up.
Have a Great Trip.

We ate at San Angel last week and it was one of our favorite meals! Both my hubby and I remarked on how delicious the food was and the salsa tasted so fresh. My kids loved their meals too, some kind of ham and cheese sandwich. The food was good...we had appetizers, entrees and desserts and all were excellent. The taste is different than a Taco Bell or Tex-Mex place. Our server (he was awesome!) said the cuisine there is "Mexico City" authentic. I guess it's a matter of opinion then since some people think the food is awful. Personally we loved it and plan to eat there again when we go back! :goodvibes

I love the atomosphere and have been twice. That being said, our service was BAD last time. Beyond slow and always a few steps behind- bringing our first round of drinks after our food arrived! The food is only okay. I've had better-nothing wrong but not great. I am thinking of skipping it this trip.

That's true, it is Mexico city authentic. Most people have never tried authentic interior Mexico food. So, they automatically just say the food is bad. It's not bad, just different than tex-mex, cali-mex or santa fe style. These are the types of Mexican food Americans are used to eating. We like The San Angel and always eat there. :confused3

Oh, I am not saying the food is bad...I've had authentic and this still wasn't so great, authentic or not. I do think sometimes people don't like it because they are expecting something like Taco Bell. That's not it. I just wasn't wowed. There's places with better food and much better service.

Agreed, the quality is not the best. We go mainly for the atmosphere. But, the food is just okay.

Do you know what the refurb entails? And how long it's supposed to last?
