Ok, so we made our ADRs on the appropriate day, but were (and have been) unable to get Le Cellier for our 10/2/09 dinner. Went with San Angel Inn. Please tell me something good about it, other than "its a nice escape from the heat" or "it has a pretty view" LOL.

I'm nervous about this one, moreso than any ressie we've ever had (including WCC and Sci Fi LOL).

We chose it because:
Italian too heavy for us
Already eating at Tokyo Dining and Les Chefs
Biergarten: been there, done that
Marrakesh: some ppl in my group not a fan of that type cuisine
5 adults, not into Princess meals
Garden Grill: meh, sounds like LTT which we've done
Coral Reef: also booked

Will I regret this?

ummm..... the unlimited chips and salsa are good. :)

Just remember that everyone has different tastes and opinions so you may end up loving it even if it gets bad reviews on here. And besides if you try it and don't like it you will know to skip it next trip.

BTW even if the princesses were not around we love the food at Askerhus, you may want to check out the menu, you might be suprised and find something you like.

YaY! Tostitos, can't wait LOL.

I've read they are actually Tostito brand chips, no joke. Oh well. They have margaritas right? LOL

we eat there because the view is pretty. :rotfl2:
really :)

But I have to say that the last time I was there, the guacomole was fresh. the "house salad" was crisp-they do it with pumpkin seed and jicama.

someone in our group had the soup and empanadas, and both were good that day. I had the beef tips, and had nothing to complain about. I'm allergic to fish, but DH had the chef's special corvina:

Corvina En Salsa Verde - Sesame crusted grilled filet of Corvina, placed on top of a Green Tomatillo sauce, wild mushrooms and a thin slice of Chorizo $24

He had it with rice...can't remember if it was a special order or not. Rice went well with the tomatillo sauce. We're OOP instead of dining plan, and the dinner prices are high for what you get, but on the dining plan, I think there's some choices that work, cuisine-wise.

I'd go for marrakesh, if you could talk the party into it, but we'll still be doing San Angel for lunch ... OOP...because the view is pretty. :3dglasses

:lmao: Alright, so if we do go, I go for the drinks....the margaritas are pretty tasty, especially while the kids are occupied watching the boats and eating the Tostitos!;)

It never hurts to try anything once. Form your own opinion. Just don't go in with very high expectations and you'll be fine! :thumbsup2

We often go there for lunch and it is quite crowded . . . all of those people can't be wrong.

We have been a bunch of times and always enjoy our meal. Is it the best mexican you can get, no, but I have never had a bad meal that was inedible.
Just keep trying for Le Cell. and enjoy San Angel!

I love San Angel - I don't know why it gets such a bad rap! The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is good (though it is not Tex-Mex which is why I think people don't like it). Personally, I do like the lunch menu more than the dinner menu so maybe you should take a look at the lunch menu and consider a big lunch and light dinner that day?

Good luck!

San Angel Inn was the surprise of our last trip. I too, was worried about this ADR and nearly cancelled it because of all the bad reviews here on the DIS. But DH and DS wanted to eat here.
The atmosphere is wonderful, the service was perfect, attentive but not hovering and the food was very good - not the best I have ever eaten but we enjoyed it alot.
I did not find it TOO dark and I did not feel the tables were closer than other WS locations.
Go and enjoy

We like San Angel Inn too, everytime we go to Epcot, we always go to San Angel Inn. Last time I went after a couple of days with gastritis and I survived.:thumbsup2

I think the biggest thing for us was that the food wasn't what we thought it was going to be ... not like the Mexican food that we get at our local Mexican restaurants.

If you can look beyond that, then I think the place is great. Just make sure you have a small flashlight to read the bill ... it is dark! LOL.

We were there for the first time last September. I do remember that we had good service, the atmoshere was incredible, loved the chips/salsa, and the drinks.

We are going again next month; hoping to enjoy it more because I have a better idea of what to expect with the entrees.

We also love San Angel. We were originally supposed to be going to Coral Reef for lunch and DH didn't want to walk that far. so we checked with San Angel and they had an opening. After hearing all the bad reviews I didn't want to be there. San Angel was one of the biggest pleasant surprises of the trip. The food was wonderful, the waitstaff was quick and friendly and the view was pretty. It was also a nice break from the heat. :rotfl:

We ate there in March, can't say it was my favorite but it was good. As the other poster said, don't go into thinking it is what you get back home. It is totally different.
I had a steak entree, can't remember the name, but it was very good. I am not a big "bean" fan and it had a black bean side. The steak was spot on but the rest.......it lacked a bit.
My husband had a chicken dish (with some sauce made of chocolate). I didn't care for it, I saw dinner yet I tasted dessert. LOL My mind couldn't connect the 2 together. :rotfl2:

I am a huge mexican fan and back home can eat chips and salsa like no one's business but I found their salsa very very very hot. Now I can do hot, prefer mild but this was on fire! Could be from the specific jalopenos, as with any sometimes some are hotter than others. But this was so hot I couldn't eat it.

I will say it had the best atmosphere of any place we went to. It really was like being in Mexico! I say stick with it, enjoy it for what it is and go from there.

In our opinion, the San Angel Inn is the best overall dining experience in Epcot (atmosphere, service, food quality, ease of gaining an ADR). We recommend it highly to anyone who asks, and no one we know has ever been disappointed.

We've eaten at SAI about 10 times over the years and always enjoyed it until our trip in May - the food was hardly fit to eat.

You picked Mexican food because Italian was too heavy? :confused3:laughing: I must just eat too many chips at Mexican restaurants.

We really like having dinner at the San Angel Inn. We think the Sopa Azteca (tortilla soup) and Mole Poblano (chicken mole) are both really good. The atmosphere is great. The margaritas aren't bad either!

Thanks for the input everyone, tis much appreciated! Feel much better about it now :goodvibes

Yep, for a couple of reasons. Authentic Mexican food (not Americanized Mexican food) isn't typically loaded with sour cream, cheese and cooked in loads of oils; unlike Italian food which almost always has: loads of cheese, pasta (not exactly light), oils and bread.

Ok, so now I am torn. We have ressie's for Tutto Italia, but now I was thinking of San aAngel instead...anyone go to Tutto lately? :confused3

My 2 cents about San Angel: we have been there twice for dinner in the last three years. The food was good (I had the Mole Poblano). The drinks were good. The atmosphere was great. The tables are a little close. The waitstaff was good. Where they fell down was...they didn't seem to be able to negotiate the DDP. We were a party of four with the plan, with a party of two OOP. We ordered a few drinks. One of the OOP had only an appetizer. It took well over an hour and a half to figure the bill. We did tell them the arrangement ahead of time, asking for separate bills. As I said, they struggled and struggled. The place closed. The chairs were upended on the tables. The cleaners cleaned. Epcot closed. There we sat. They charged us for all the booze twice. They added all the meals together. It took them try after try to get it right, which they didn't. We gave up, paid some $20 more than we should have just to get out of there, and walked out of an empty park (which was kind of cool, I have to admit) and an empty bus picked us up at the entrance to take us (alone) back to our resort. I did email guest services, in the name of improving customer service, and never heard a word. And NO, I WAS NOT LOOKING FOR A COMP (a little pre-emptive strike there) just hoping that the next time we eat there (and we will) we won't have a similar experience.
